Fete de la musique

Like every year - for the 26th time! - Paris celebrated "La fete de la musique" yesterday. The weather was good, there were bands everywhere - and everyone was in the mood to party. Well, so I'm told because, for once, I did not take this photo myself but a colleague of mine (Nicolas) did. One thing I can tell you, there was no music festival in the streets of Palo Alto last night!

  1. Because of Fete de la Musique, I heard some interesting live concert yesterday apparently broadcast from the Olympia on FIP (if you have sound on your computer and a DSL or faster line, you can hear FIP at:

cliquer sur "ecoutez" or on the arrow.)

(Eric, don't worry, you should hear plenty of music this WE :)

  2. I must be the most boring so-called adopted Parisian on the planet - for the fete de la musique I stayed at home and watched it on telly!

The first reason was that I'd been pounding the streets already that afternoon putting up ads.

And the second reason is that later on in the evening the event is notorious for attracting undesirable types who drink too much and cause trouble - not the place for someone who has a reputation for losing very nice cameras at a rate of knots, so I stayed at home!

  4. The band in the photo looks like they're playing jazz, so maybe this would have been a good choice for you, ParisSMF. I'm sure there were head-banging bands as well. (Obviously, somebody's head is banging!) I see the Seine in the background. I spent last night (the solstice) biking and wining downtown along the Mississippi River. (Notre petite Seine.) Not quite the same, but it was indeed a lovely evening.

  5. Jeff...not a bad way to wind down. When I lived in New Orleans (1987), I always made it a point as dusk set in to take a stroll along the Mississippi; then we'd head for the clubs. As for the music, jazz is where it's at. (Okay, I'm biased!) Wish I was in the land of baguettes. Here in the States we're having a lot of music festivals as well, but...it ain't Paris.
