Jogging in Les Tuileries gardens

If you're looking for a nice place to run or to take your children to while you're in paris (they have cool things for kids, like this sail boat rental that I used to love when my parents would take me there!). The fascinating thing about these gardens is that they have been the 1st public gardens in Paris, ever! It was Louis the XIVth, after he commited famous gardner André Le Notre to design them, who decided that Parisians would be granted to right to walk through them every year on June 24. Imagine!

  1. 'Le jardin des Tuileries' was one of my first Parisian experiences on my initial visit to Paris in 1982. I remember that it was a clear, cool and bright February morning and the moment has never left me. It stands up there, with La tour Eiffel and L’arc de triomphe de l’Étoile as emblematic of this museum city.

  2. I absolutely love the Tuileries!! I love to grab a sandwich or a crepe and a bottle of water, and just hang out in those awesome green chairs for hours at a time. The best chairs are the ones that have a dip in them - so comfortable!

Eric, you are so right about the boats - I happened upon it last time I was there, and it was one of the cutest things I've ever seen!

  3. Wasn't this guy at the white dinner party? (just kidding!) The Tuileries is my second favorite to the Luxembourg. Perhaps, because I can never pronounce "Tuileries" correctly. The weather looks beautiful...of course, it's Paris.

  5. I was pleasantly surprised to see kids still play with boats in there. I remember my brother doing that so many years ago, the picture I have of him doing that is black and white! They also had cast iron swings in there for little ones and a merry go round or two, but I don't think they kept those.

  6. Ahh, les Tuilleries has been one of my 'gardens' along with Champs de Mars where I ran for a couple of years before moving. Now I'm just south of Paris and Parc Monsouris and a bit further Jardin de Luxembourg are where I try to keep fit. Those green chairs are classics, aren't they?!

  7. So it means that during monarchy parisians had only one specific day to enjoy the beautiful garden?! ah those kings and their crazy ideas...!

  8. Great photo. The beach, sand and children's area, are not the first thing one thinks about when you are imaging Paris. Definitely a different perspective.

  9. Can anyone fill me in on the proper pronunciation? My boyfriend and I were there in early January, when it was much colder. We enjoyed watching the little kids and their sailboats and then a nice stroll down to l'arc de triomphe. Couldn't ask for a more perfect day in Paris! The proper pronunciation still eludes me though.

  11. Lunch in les Tuileries after a morning of walking. The sculptures, the breeze, the shade trees, the girl watching. Ah, c'est bon. Alors, what should we do this afternoon?

  14. ColtraneLives: Purchased? Oh, dear, I hope you like that movie then! Did you get the box with 2 DVD's including special features? Just curious. I don't know about the movie itself, but I'm pretty sure you'll like that soundtrack. :)

  18. oh yay, thanks all for the pronunciation help! The jardin part I had, just the Tuileries I was struggling with. Good to know I wasn't too far off. My french may not be as bad as I credit it to be :)
