The great Paris reef!
I know it's hard to believe but I took this photo right under... the Eiffel Tower! (those who know the place will probably recognize the Champs de Mars and the Ecole Militaire in the background.) All Eiffel Tower visitors can try this temporary swimming pool (it lasts until June 10), it's free and everything (diving suites, tanks and even the photos of fish under the water!) is provided. Pretty clever idea I must say and quite unexpected. Here is a little video, if you want to see more.

That's terrific - Paris sure comes up with unique ideas!
ReplyDeleteThat's style
ReplyDeleteCool! I'm going to go check it out! You say it lasts until June 1st....I'm hoping that actually means July...??
ReplyDeleteFirst Paris Plage and now this! I've got to say when I'm at the bottom of the Eiffel Tower I prefer to look at it with no interferences in the view, just the plain and beautiful tower pointing to the sky.
ReplyDeleteBut I suppose people had a lot of fun with this! Paris IS definetely a moveable feast!
Free? That could mean some very long lines when Paris starts heating up. What a great idea, though!
ReplyDeleteOooh, that looks like fun!
ReplyDeleteThats pretty cool, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteOh YES! I recognized it right away...I wonder if the pool is deep enough to jump down from Eiffel tower ;o)
ReplyDeleteIt's unbelievable - what will you crazy Parisians come up with next?! Another photo I'll have to try and get too - keep them coming!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the piscine is full of Australians. We will swim anywhere !
ReplyDeleteThey covered this on the news here last night. They were saying it was so cold there that people didn't want to get in the water! That must be a sight to see! :)
ReplyDeleteHoly moly, Eric! I was just looking at the Eiffel Tower live webcam and wondering what the heck that big blue rectangle under the tower was, and thought to myself, "maybe I should ask Eric." So then I come over here and viola! There it is!
ReplyDeleteHello Eric. This is a startling photo. Amazing contrast. I remember the Champs de Mars very well - I lived just down the street from the Ecole Militaire - in rue D'Oessant - albeit a long time ago, now - 1975!
ReplyDeleteThat is really fun.
ReplyDeleteActually M. Benaut I have no idea LOL. ONe thing I can tell you is that there were not that many people swimming on the day I took this photo (whereas there were hundreds of people waiting on line to climb up the Eiffel Tower.)
ReplyDeleteConsidering what Lori said it might be related to the cold!
Suzy, where did you find this cam?
Halley you're right, I made a mistake, it's until June 10... Silly me ;)
Eric, there is a live cam at

but of course, it's dark right now, so I can't tell if you can see the pool or not, but you probably can.
