There's no bones about it!

Here is another "encounter" you can make on the Champs Elysées at the moment... This skull was made by Philippe Pasqua, a French sculptor and painter, it's made of marble from Carrara and it weights no less than 4,5 tons! It is on display at the Artcurial galery a very famous auction house, located at the bottom of the Champs Elysées in the stunning hôtel particulier that once belonged to Marcel Dassault, a famous French airplane maker.

  2. Do we know whose skull it is supposed to be? The front teeth struck me as very distinctive.

  3. Wow. The first thing that comes to mind is "groovy." It's a good photo for October, that's for sure.

I noticed those front teeth, too, Brandon. Quite a mystery there.

  4. contrast this to michelangelo's "pieta" which was made of carrara also.......WHAT a contrast! BUT a sculpture is a sculpture.....whether you like the subject matter or not......

  5. It looks like what was left of that pointy-eared jerk who stole Solange's purse the other night.

  6. Hamlet:

Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him, Horatio, a fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy. He hath bore me on his back a thousand times, and now how abhorr'd in my imagination it is!

    My gorge rises at it.

  7. It's a little early for Halloween, but, since the stores are already gearing up for the annual event; I guess PDP can get away with it too.

Gothic art has been very "in" for several decades now. In the early 1970's when I lived in NYC, I use to wear a black velvet jacket with a large skull and cross bones on the back. I use to wonder sometimes what the people's faces looked like when they saw me pass by. I wonder what happened to that jacket. hmmmmm It was one of my original designs.

  8. I thought Paris didn't get all into the Halloween thing. This is a tad too realistic pour moi. Jilly had some funky but very chic skeletons on her Monte Carol DPB this week too! This guy is .......Ewwwwwww!

  9. I've never seen a child dressed up for the holiday, but I have seen tons of adults out partying in costumes( since about the year 2001)!
    LoL Monica!

  10. Ooooh, lots of links today, Eric! This guy is truly a dentist's dream, eh? And the Champs seems to be the place for art these days. Just found the time to go back to yesterday's post and see what happened to Jean-Charles and Solange. All I can say is LOL, and well done, everyone, especially Lynn and Anonyme (your former collaborateur?).
Eric -- where did I get the (apparently very old-fashioned) name Solange? I actually knew someone with this name; she would have been born around 1937 though. BTW, I think it's a beautiful name.

  15. Perfect for Halloween, altho my understanding is that it's not as popular in France. Loved Anonymous' quote. I taught Hamlet for years and loved every minute of it.

  17. Oui, I do love Shakespeare and I felt it was so appropriate for this image.

    Secret Seats

Not quite "the dog is behind the bush"...

But yet nags of a similar ilk, don't you think Lynn. Another time and another place. LOL

An Early "All Hallows Eve" Everyone!

  18. Nice Anonymous, but I prefer to think of the final line in 'King Lear' for this...

    "Then He Dies."

Definately going to be part of our Halloween day festivities as it is spooky in a big way!

  19. On another subject, Eiffel Tower Suzy, I was watching a film last night, and it mentioned that a woman had married the Eiffel Tower. So I did a search and yes, it is true.

  20. Oui, Lois, c'est vrai! Her name is Erika Eiffel Tower or Erika La Tour Eiffel. I believe she broke up with a fence post or something in favor of the ET.

Did anyone see the ET light show this evening? I sure do hope Eric and his camera were there!!!

  21. I am watching it right now Suzy, it will happen every 30 min until 23h (11pm)

  23. LOL! Broke up with a fence post! What a riot! Eiffel Tower Suzy, merci for the up-date!

  24. You know, Lois, you must have been watching the same thing as my daughter, because she also mentioned the lady who married the ET to me.

I was serious about the fence post!

  25. Suzy, thanks for the address, I did not know they would do that today.
Mind you it does not work on my end, but maybe because there are too many connections? Did it work on your end?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh yes, Eric, and despite it being sideways, it is spectacular! You'll just have to get out there in person to see it.

See? I knew something different was going on the other night!

  27. I couldn't get the light show either, on the internet.

  28. You may think this is perfect for Halloween, when in reality it is even better for the Dia de los Meurtos [Day of the Dead] that is celebrated in Mexico on 11/1 & 11/2.

  29. PHX-CDG, that's too bad. I guess you'll have to catch it in person - shame, isn't it? ;)
