Guitar Player in the Metro

I happened to find myself at the Champs Elysées Clémenceau Metro station last evening and I came across a pretty unusual scene. The Paris transport authorities (RATP) had invited 5 musicians (I could only photograph 4 of these musicians, see them on the making of) to perform in the station just before their "real" performance at the Grand Palais (see more here), right outside the metro station. Interesting, and pretty unexpected I must say...

  1. Eric? In the Metro? What happened? What's wrong? Scooter break down? Well glad you made it underground to capture this scene. Can't see "the making of" link, but sure it's just a broken link or something.

  3. Usually cities try to keep musicians OUT of the subways. How unusual!!
But, in this stream of conciousness moment, I remember Carley Simon sang in one of the hallways of Grand Central in New York, but even then, it wasn't in the subway....er.. but on top of the subway system..

  5. Hey, Zazie—what were you doing in the Metro? This is very cool, and I'm glad you were there to catch it. Here in NYC, we have a program called Music Under New York. In 2009, 270 performers submitted an application, 60 were chosen to audition, and 10% of them passed and were given an official permit to perform in the subway. Take note, RATP! (Hope you can fix the "making of" problem.)

  6. He's cute. Hope the music he made was nice as well. I couldn't understand the Grand Palais site's explanation. . .was this a pop group? Couldn't see your other photos at Making of as well, so the background on this handsome monsieur will remain shrouded in mystery :-).

  7. I agree with Kim and Nadege, he's cute. He looks kind of cold, which would make sense, considering what you've been telling us lately about the weather. I doubt those Metro stations are heated. Surely the Grand Palais will warm him up.

  8. A great idea and he looks faintly amused by it all.

Eric, do visit Menton Daily Photo and/or Monte Carlo Daily Photo today. Both are celebrating their 3rd birthdays - not a day ever missed - and of course all with a big thanks to you.

  10. Cute, yes ~ I thought it was Ben Affleck for a moment! I'd love it if this happened to be going on when I was using the metro {or Alexa's subway}.

  14. Actually the RATP also has a programme for "official musicians" who audition and get a license to play in the subaway.See http://www.ratp.fr/musiciens/index.shtml for more info (sorry, yhe english version doesn't seem to work, but the garphics are undertandable).

  16. Beautiful photo. Interesting to learn that the Paris metro has a licensing program similar to the one in NYC. Though, in NYC it is also allowed to play in the subway without a permit. I know this from the blog of the 'Saw Lady' www.sawlady.com/blog - she tells what happens when she plays in the subway. Is it allowed to play in the Paris metro without a permit?

  17. Why Louis vuitton bags Accoutrements Amount What They Do and the Amount They Action For Money cheap lv bags accoutrements don't appear actual cheap. At least, they are not the cheapest of handbags. Yet thousands, if not millions of women abide to acquirement the Louis Vuitton Shoulder bags Totes Epi Leather accoutrements - acutely absent of their price; and of the actuality that there are a amount of added allegedly cheaper backpack brands out there.
