Pont Alexandre III
It's a classic, but I'll never be bored with it... It's the Alexander 3rd bridge, a bridge that was built between 1896 and 1900. Tsar Alexander II of Russia (the son of Tsar Alexander III to which it was dedicated) laid the foundation stone in October 1896. It was inaugurated, like many other structures nearby, in 1900 for the World’s Fair. I had dinner on the left bank tonight and I took this photo on my way back home (to the right bank!), about 30 minutes ago.

Ah, thank you, Eric. You bring back fond memories of Paris on this cold winter day in NH. I love the soft golden glow on the "floor" (if that's the correct term)of the bridge and on the the sides. It's magic, but of course Paris is magic to me.
ReplyDeleteIt's my favorite bridge to look at. I always love seeing its Art Nouveau lanterns.
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking the time to snap this shot of Paris's most beautiful bridge (especially at night). Hope you had a nice dinner too!
ReplyDeleteIt's simply perfect.
ReplyDeleteFrom the mood of this shot that must have been a very satisfying dinner.
ReplyDeletePssst, according to Wikipedia, "It is named after Tsar Alexander III, who had concluded the Franco-Russian Alliance in 1892. His son Nicholas II laid the foundation stone in October 1896."
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking us along with you across this lovely, lovely bridge. We will never be bored with it, either :-). Fun perspective!

Your enthusiasm is beguiling. Your photos show just how much you love your city. I really like that.
ReplyDeleteSue and I have been over and under it - yes it is a masterpiece.
ReplyDeleteAnd we will revist it in April.
I have told all my friends that I want my ashes dumped into the Seine off this bridge!
ReplyDeleteOh my... this is soooo beautiful!! Merci, Valorie
ReplyDeleteI love all your photos Eric, I was lucky enough to spend 6 months of my life living in Paris and this blog brings back those happy memories...
ReplyDeleteI've added a link to your blog from my city blog too as it's one of my favourites

ReplyDeleteI've made the same request, anon. On my first trip to Paris I threw my gold necklace into the water from the bridge. I felt I needed to leave a part of myself there. There's something about that bridge that brings peace to me.
It's a very beautiful bridge. I took a lot of photos from there when I was in Paris. A place to be kept in your mind.
