How to become a real Parisian...
If you want to know what being a real Parisian means, you have to ask "Professor Olivier Giraud", a young French man who spent five years as a restaurant manager in Palm Beach, Florida before he realized he would be much better off as a comedian in France. And I concur... (Well not that I know what he is worth as a restaurant manager!) as I went to see his show last night (with PHX, Guille, Michael...) and had a real good laugh. The show is in English (sometimes with a heavy French accent), and makes fun of the French as much as the Americans (and the Germans!). If you come to Paris, you HAVE to see it. Have a sneak peak in this little video.

well, Eric, I said I wouldn't go on the computer at the hotel tonight, but I couldn't help myself. We had a wonderful evening , even tho no one will mistake me for a French woman after all we learned.
ReplyDeleteThat comment was me, PHX-CDG
ReplyDeleteOh, I'll probably never get to see this unless he sells a cd/dvd of it or something. :( Since you posted this great solo portrait of him, Eric, I'll bet you can convince him there's a market for it! The show sounds like its not to be missed - and its pretty cool for we anglos that he's done it in English.
ReplyDeleteGuille, you'll work on Eric to do that for we poor PDPers stuck far across the pond, right? (I might as well try to get everyone in on the guilt trip!)
PS - this portrait is really nice, too - the lights echo his costume as he's "center stage" in the dark.
Fun! I always think of David Sedaris for my favorite humor on French-American relations. You've got to read "Me Talk Pretty One Day" if you get the chance.

This looks really great fun! I'm glad you all had a lovely evening :D xx
ReplyDeleteI would love to see this show.
ReplyDeleteLinda -- I so agree on David Sedaris. I love to hear him read or talk about his time in France. Somehow, it doesn't sound as funny when I read it, but he has me on the floor when I hear him.
ReplyDeleteHey a big SHOUT OUT! to PHX, Guille, and Michael!
ReplyDeleteI did not think any of the jokes by "Professor" Olivier Giraud were funny -- maybe it is because I am a French-American, and I know French people on a different level -- like "not stereo-types".
But, I did recently see a comedian that I thought was way too funny, Anjelah Johnson, a former Oakland Raiders cheerleader. She is Mexican and Native American. I think she is very cute and funny. She made me laugh, especially her skit on the Vietnamese nail salon manicurist. Girl, So true.
"Champs E-Lie-Zis" lol!
ReplyDeleteI only have one thing to say Eric...
ReplyDeletePffffffffft!
Which in French means, "good show, good photo"!
Cute. I'll have to watch the video tomorrow when I can turn up the volume without bothering the sleeping husband!
ReplyDeleteI agree on Sedaris, Linda. I don't love all his stuff, but "Me Talk Pretty One Day" is hilarious.
Bonjour mon ami!
ReplyDeleteI am new to your blog and i love it!
I have a French party on the 1st of the month where you can advertise your site by linking one of your posts. You get free advertising and lots views. I would love if you participate.
Come see me.

For Lois, and thanks: Anjelah Johnson.
ReplyDeleteBut, honestly, could anything at all top sharing time with Eric, PHX, Guille, and Michael? Au contraire, I think not. Soooo envious.
Sounds like you had a wonderful time with a wonderful group of friends! Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteAny evening out with PHX, Guille, Michael and you Eric would be
ReplyDeleteTOP!!!!!
Wish I was there!

vert your eyes if an old lady on the Metro looks at you because she wants your seat...Swish your hair purse your lips and sway your hips if you want to attract a FR. man in a niteclub...anything else we learned I will tell you in person if you invite me to your PDP picnic in your city.
ReplyDeleteMerci for my morning laugh!
ReplyDeleteSo that's where he went.
ReplyDeletepffft, rhooo, holala!! :)
ReplyDeleteI was a really nice show.
PHX CDG, my favorite part was the taxi. Hope you made it home safe BTW.
Carrie, he's planning to play his show in the US next winter! Stay tuned.
One word: it was worth it. And honestly, the price is really affordable.
I didn't learn much, everything he said was the clichés everybody knows about Parisians and most generally French people, but seeing someone actually playing it cracked me up!
Monica "Any evening out with PHX, Guille, Michael and you Eric would be TOP!!!!!" You know what you're talking about, don't you?! :)
Phx: you are Parisian. Could the Godmother of PDP be anything less?
ReplyDeleteSounds like you all had a great evening filled with laughter. Who could ask for more?
Thanks for the recommendation, and glad you all had a fun evening out together. Now off to peek at the video. . .

That was cute :-). I'm sure being with friends for the show made it really fun.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tall Gary for the link to Anjelah Johnson. She nails that unique Oaktown accent. What a hoot.
Hope others will link to their fave regional comedy poking a bit of fun at locals and visitors.

"Today I'm in a very bad mood like I was yesterday and like I will be tomorrow!"...Parfait!!
ReplyDeleteGUILLE: Exactly!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat´s why I miss being there with you guys so much!!!!
CALI I love the nickname you got for PHX, PDP Godmother!
ReplyDelete;)
Hope Phx likes it! lol.
ReplyDeleteI'm always suspicious about this sort of thing because I have bad memories of being fed up with weak Brits making sad fun at the French in whose country they are actually staying, like the first of the ilk, Peter Mayle's 'A Year In Provence', but I haven't seen the show yet, so I'll withhold judgement for the mo..
