The Ipad is already in Paris
I know you don't visit PDP to get an update on the latest high tech products but this is not just ANY high tech product AND it is not in its natural reserve, but in Paris as the map on its screen shows it (the dark blue thick line is the river Seine). The most famous gadget of the moment has not been officially launched in France yet, but this company was clever enough to buy a few ones in New York a few days ago and organize a PR event around it. I was fortunate enough to be invited to it. The event took place in the showroom of a famous designer, so it gave a special flavor to the presentation - and the photo...

Fun photo, Eric. I hope you were feeling well when you went to the event! The iPads are here (I posted about it the other day). Some people are impressed and some aren't. But my husband sure wants one!
ReplyDeleteI'll take one please...
ReplyDelete: )
Yes I'm really back on feet now Petrea, thank you. Well, the iPad surely has flaws, but it's really a nice object. I'll wait for v2 though...

ReplyDeleteMe want iPad!
...with or without wings ;)
I can't figure out the difference between that and my I Touch, other than the size, so ok, size does matter.
ReplyDeleteJust like my iPod Touch, apparently—only bigger, so I could actually read what's on the screen. What a concept! I'll wait until the price comes (waaaay) down, thanks. So will you get one, Eric?? (And of course you were invited to this event—you're you, after all!
ReplyDeleteNot sure I need one, but I will say this: it is TEMPTING. The display is GORGEOUS, really, and the multitouch (pinch-zoom) feature is extremely responsive. The websites load FAST on wi-fi, and it's pretty much a pretty sexy object (we all know its flaws).
ReplyDeleteI sure don't need one, at least that's what I've been telling myself when I walked out of the Apple store, the other day ;)
Alexa, the price isn't going to come down, or not much (look at the history of the iPod prices) but the specs will be more impressive (more memory for the existing price).
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised nobody's done this yet....
ReplyDeleteiPad!
iPad!!
iPad!!!
I'm not gadget person, but this one is really tempting. Will someone will give me the Ipad? ^__^
ReplyDeleteSo what we really want to know Eric is did you look at PDP on it and how big the Eiffel Tower looked?
ReplyDeleteI simply can't understand why some people do not get it! This little thing, the Ipad, whether you like it or not, is going to change the face of home computing and indeed many of our business applications . . . . . . . forever! Every company worth its salt, will be frenetically trying to replicate it, within months
ReplyDeleteBuzz.
ReplyDeletei got to play with one yesterday....(my boss got one) and i must say, it got addictive. very fun.
ReplyDelete@Michael "So what we really want to know Eric is did you look at PDP on it and how big the Eiffel Tower looked?" LOL. Yes, I did! And it works just fine, except for the flash parts of course(ie the clock for instance).
ReplyDeleteI tend to agree with anonymous, I think this new thing will give way to a brand new industry (well being in the press, I certainly hope it will anyway!)
I'm not a very techie person and I've never owned anything Apple related, but this seems cool enough. Would I spend the $$ on it? No. But then again, I wouldn't on the Iphone either. I'm happy with making calls on my phone. (I know, I know. Behind the times, old school, not "with it", etc. Mostly, it's "too frugal"! :)
ReplyDeleteBut glad you're feeling so much better, Eric!
The iPad has already changed my life! But that's because I work at an Apple Store and it's changed our world there.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't sure how I was going to feel about it, but it really is a great device. Even the little things like the address book, calendar and email programs are so much better and more functional with the additional screen space. But I'm probably not going to buy one anytime soon, because I have an iPhone, and the new iPhone OS that was announced yesterday is going to add a couple of the ipAd features, like the iBooks to the iPhone. I'll think I'll hold out for a 3G one once the new OS is available for the iPad because it will be even better with multitasking!
i have mine since yesterday. Very happy :-)
ReplyDeletei will receive 10 more tomorrow, so if you want one, tell me.
Nathalie, that buzz you here is the sound of the wheels of industry, realigning to embrace the new mouse-free, keyboard-less computer that's going to take the place of your kitchen phone and the print of the little crying boy on your living room wall. But hey, if you don't believe me, give it a couple of months
ReplyDeleteDermo
sorry, meant 'hear'. Just like the Ipad, I've experienced a glitch
ReplyDeleteOh This is so fantastic !! Loved this post !!
ReplyDeleteSome people have all the luck.
ReplyDeleteIpad, I-Schmad, I-mad I don't have one...but I do have a drum practice pad! I bet mine costs less too and will take more of a beating. Hey Eric, good luck with the eBay auction. Le Scooter is on the move as I type. Bon weekend aussi!
ReplyDelete@Coltrane. Merci ;-) One more day before the auction closes...
ReplyDeleteI cracked up when one of my Face Book friends in Berkeley typed into his status line: UPS truck is outside!
ReplyDeleteAnd another friend replied: Someone has his iPad!
The excitement of first adopters has been incredible. Complete with a whole episode of Charlie Rose in NYC demonstrating and discussing pros and cons with a couple guys. Well, you can bet a lot of views of PDP will be on these new screens, so Paris is already ON the iPad in the form of images you have made.
I will also wait for version 2, but really can't justify the cost, so probably won't go for it unless the price goes way down. I have an iPhone and a Kindle. . .(a gift) so don't need another portable gadget. Sales point for me might be if they ever included a GOOD camera function. :-)

I'm happy as a clam with my dear IMAC, the only man in my life!
