Busy crossing

I don't know why, but I love this photo. Probably because it shows that Paris is not just an "open air museum" like I often hear, but also a "real" city with heavy traffic and busy streets - which also means traffic accidents (there were 44 deaths on the road in Paris in 2009...).  I took this photo at the crossing of rue de Rivoli and rue des Archives, right by one of the entrances of the BHV department store.

  1. And is that an ambulance I see back there? Hope it isn't rushing off to a road accident! I like this picture too—for the very same reason. Am off on on a (mostly internet-less) vacation. Will miss my daily dose of Paris!

  2. My first morning walk in Paris led us to BHV and a view of the rooftops from...the wc! That is a great location for realizing it is a city. BHV, L'Hotel de Ville, and that cute Metro station hiding behind the trees: you just need to know where it is.

  3. The girl on the Velib looks a lot more chic than I did when I cycled through Paris. Looking at the traffic in the photo I don't really know how I did it .

I love the down stairs in BHV I bought a chein merchant maitre feroce placque for my gate a few years ago though I notice they are selling similar things in the souvenir shops now.

  5. They certainly don't take prisioners on the Paris roads.
The contrast between the static traffic and the blur which is the moving traffic just emphasises the potential danger. Perhaps best not to dwell on it!

  6. I just love that you can ride your bike an go to your work in Paris! here, in Greece, it's too risky, since drivers don't pay attention to bikers and there are no bike roads....

  8. Here, there are those hardy souls who ride bikes to work, but only for a few months out of the year. Too much snow and ice the rest of the year. We are blessed and live only a few miles out of town, but it is ALL hills. These people are brave, but I think it is all what you're accustomed to dealing with!

There we have it. Proof that there is far too much racing around thesedays but you have performed something that other mere mortals can't do- you can make time stand still. Voila! Best wishes, Therese
