More Love locks!

Do you remember the photo of the "love locks" that I took on the Pont des Arts and that I posted last June. Well today I found more! On the Pont de l'Archevêché, behind Notre Dame. I waited for some time (in the rain and the cold, thank you very much!) to get a Péniche - a flat boat that runs on the Seine - in the background, so that it would complete the perfect romantic shot ;-) Cheesy? Well yes, a little bit!

  1. OMG, oui, I remember the first photo of love locks. This brings to mind another form of street art that has become very popular here in San Francisco. It's called "Fence Weaving". It started about five years ago and is now hitting the high-end art galleries. Why it is called "Fence Weaving" is because pictures are made by weaving strips of fabric through the fence. I did a search so that I could give you a visual -- but this form of art is so new that I guess there isn't much out there on the Internet yet.

  2. "Cheesy"? Tres Americain. Is there a similar expression a la Francais? "Fromagey"?

It's a great photo. I wonder, though, when it comes to locks: does size matter?

  4. @Lois "Why it is called "Fence Weaving" is because pictures are made by weaving strips of fabric through the fence." Interesting. I don't think we have that on our side of the pond, but I'm sure we will soon...

@Jeff "Cheesy". Yes, we have a word for that, I have it at the top of my tongue right now, but I don't remember it! Maybe some French visitor can help (I looked up on Google all I found was... food (cheese) related of course!)

@Lily. Yes, no worries, I'm safe and sound now ;-) Ready to start the week ;-) Thank you.

  5. Yeah, these two bridges have really got completely covered in these things in the last few months. I heard something on the radio recently saying that they may all be removed as it's just getting crazy, and no longer very pretty. And the 'weaving' of plastic bags which seems to be replacing locks for those who didn't have one to hand is quite simply ugly, which reminds me of what stations look like during cleaning strikes! Watch this space, lovers!

  7. That blurry Péniche behind the focused foreground makes for a sumptuous image. Thanks for the sacrifice (ha ha).

"Paris; love; locks”: inspires an image that is, what would I say? Less mechanical? Or even something less marble.

  8. These padlocks are a little uninspiring.
Perhaps there is a business opportunity for a range of proper lovelocks in heart shapes into which a love message and/or a photo of the lovers can be inserted, all decorated with Eiffel Towers in a range lurid colours. (in a range of sizes, Jeff)
This would allow all those nice street vendors to expand their product range.
    Now that would be cheesy.

  10. I left a lock there on that exact spot in September...a little over to the left..with a white bead bracelet entwined...if only you'd shot it a little over..oh well I know it's there.

  13. I love the idea of placing a lock on a fence in Paris. The city has a LOCK on my heart for sure. Thanks!

  14. You are so good to us, Eric! And I'm pretty sure we all appreciate it (I know I do). I think a bit of cheesiness is a good thing sometimes, but Drummond may be on to something. I'm starting to see locks on the Brooklyn Bridge too.

  15. Cheesy? Maybe, but there are far worse things in this world than cheesy, romantic photos. I cherish the cheesy things in life.

  16. Ty for the wordreference.com site!
Sometimes direct translation doesn't catch the idiom however. Is "ringaud" correct, Eric?
Oh, we ALL have to have our bit of cheese! Different flavors for each and I like the taste of this photo!
