Public Transportation

First of the month=theme day! You must know that by now! And this month, I paid attention and did not forget about it, like last month ;-) This November theme day is "Public Transportation" and God knows that when it comes to underground transportation, buses and even funiculars we have the choice in Paris. I chose a rather futuristic view of the Metro; the brand new turnstiles. Now have a look what public transportation looks like throughout the world.

  1. I like it, Eric. The soft, yellow-greenish light sure lets us know we're underground.

And thanks for the reminder to get to work on my post!

  2. I remember the Paris Metro when they had barriers to stop people from running at the last minute to catch the train. They even had first and second class cars.

  3. Loved the Metro! Had the best time just wandering from point to point in the city on a five day pass. The occasional musicians and the really bad impromptu puppet shows from folks just trying to make a couple of Euros. Those turnstiles look harder to bypass than the other ones. I had to improvise at a station when my pass ran out and I had to get back to the hotel. A friendly gent showed me how. Good times.

  4. Well bravo Eric for lying down in the Métro to get this nice shot. I wouldn't have done it for all the euros in Paris! HA

I passed on this Theme Day. Hope I"m not fired. I'll play nice next month I promise. Perhaps a "Papal Pardon" is called for ???

  5. Phx -- I remember that too!
Eric -- I love the way you used the famous Tenin you-know-what to capture this rider going through these shiny new turnstiles! And thanks for all the links.

  12. This shot is just so you, I love it.

Whenever we go abroad, it's the subways that I most envy. I don't think Manila will ever get one during my lifetime.

  13. From the thumbnail and my tired old eyes, I thought this photo was the back side of a wedding party! Fun, regardless........

  15. Especially liked the colourful collection of transports all over the world. Would have liked to add some of my Swiss 'means of transport' photos from my Flickr site too ....
Haven't used the new turnstiles yet. But our English friends complained that they couldn't get their luggage through any of them.... If you haven't anybody opening a door next to them you're well and truly 'foutu'! Great post Eric

  17. Oh! The Paris Metro! We'll be making use of it again next September.

We'll be sure to admire the new turnstiles, but will they still be shiny?

  19. Ooh, la, la! The famous Tenin perspective! How we've missed it. :) Very nice salute to Theme Day. I wonder what I would do as we have no public transportation in my town! Your feet and your bike, car, or motorcycle are your only sources of transporation.

  20. Oh what a great shot! I love it, too, and it brings back lots of great memories. Isn't it funny how attached people can become to a transportation system!

I didn't get to comment yesterday - just want to say I've had a postcard of this view, which I adore, displayed in my kitchen since September, 2001. I think it makes Paris look like some fantasy city and its fantastic that it really exists. I get to dream every day that I'll be transported on a magic carpet out my kitchen window and float in over the Seine and up the rue Lafitte only to settle softly on the plaza in front of Sacre Coeur....never to leave again. : )

  21. Hi, I just found your blog and have to say I'm very disappointed. This is a photography blog and the pictures are small? You have waaay too much stuff on your page. It's more like an advertisement than a photo blog.

Take a look at the Venice daily blog and see how it should be done.

    Sorry.
