You may think this is an old photo that I took last winter, but no, I took it very recently, while I was having dinner at a friend's house in the close suburbs of Paris. It was sooooooo cold, that my friends decided to start a fire! I just read that today, we're going to break a cold record for this time of the year! This terrible weather also has a tremendous impact on the economy; not only are the terraces empty, but there is not even a line in front of Berthillon!

Is crazy that we still have to wear our winter clothings at this time of the year!
ReplyDeleteAnd the heating on!
DeleteTell me about it!
ReplyDeleteThat's awful. I'm sorry your weather's been so bad. On the other hand, an espresso by the fire sounds nice right about now.
ReplyDeleteLOL
Deletehere in Connecticut we can relate to the lousy weather. It is raining and cool (50s) right through our Memorial Day holiday weekend. To think that in 4 weeks the days will start to get shorter already. Then again there are those poor people in Oklahoma affected by the tornados to put it all in to perspective so with or without your winter clothes on enjoy each day as it comes! Anne
ReplyDeleteYes I know, when I see what happened in Moore, I feel bad complaining...
DeleteSnow in Calgary and rain, rain, rain in Montréal. So we feel for you in Paris. Crazy weather all around
ReplyDeleteYes, but in Canada isn't that normal at this time of the year? Funny thing is that it snowed in several places in France too (in the mountains of course, but still, that is very unusual.
DeleteFreeeezing cold in Paris instead of buying a Berthillon Ice cream I had to buy a winter jacket warm stockings and a jumper.. I am here until Sunday avo Eric.. Hopefully we get to catch up for a cafe .... Kara :-)
ReplyDeleteI replied to your email Kara ;-) We can have a hot chocolate if we see each other!)
DeleteThis is indeed a kinda-old-looking photo, and it's nice.. so warming, and welcoming that there.. are those cups of coffee? or red wine? can't tell. haha
ReplyDeleteAnd Champagne! It was a fine evening, despite the cold...
DeleteMy kind of atmosphere, it seems! I so like good-old-looking ambiance... Totally out of fashion and totally my taste (so amusing to me)! Tell me who does not like? The flames of a fire never leave me indifferent. A little champagne to start, coffee cups on a tray, some pictures and memories to share, projects we are talking about, laughs, and now ... The decor of a show I've seen, there is not a long time, and I liked. Warm image, Eric. Thank you, in this cold spring, less than a month in the summer and soon the days shorter. But we're not there yet!! Have a nice day.
ReplyDeleteI agree, nice ambiance ;-) But a nice sunny picnic would be nice too!
DeleteI was in Paris for two weeks -- just came home yesterday. It was such a kick to read PDP while on your home turf that I gladly put up with the rain and the cold. Besides Paris my other favorite city in Europe is Edinburgh in January and now I can say that I've had my "Edinburgh in January" experience in Paris (the bone-chilling damp just makes the pubs/cafes all the more comforting and inviting).
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what it feels like: Edinburgh in January. But I'm not Scottish!
DeleteNice wealthy home, with the flames.
ReplyDeleteParis is really terrible at the moment for tourists and I feel sorry for them. I don't remember such a bad weather for so long, ...
An "Edimburgh in January" experience in Paris is a funny summarize. I'm looking forward to a "Rio in Paris" experience !
I'm with you CN. I'm all for Rio in Paris too! Or even Doha!
DeleteYes, it has been cold and rainy in so many places. It will be cool today here, but at least it will be sunny--a welcome change. It's my birthday present from le soleil.
ReplyDeleteToday is your birthday? Nah. Mr Facebook would have told me!!
DeleteMr. Facebook doesn't have my data. Trust me over him, d'accord?
DeleteI STILL say a chilly day in Paris is better than a warm day in almost any other city in the world! Thanks for sharing this cozy and inviting photo.
ReplyDeleteI agree. How warm does that look.Of course it's easy to say when one lives in sunny San Diego...
DeleteCyndi
LOL. True!
DeleteJust to chime in here, the high temperature today in Paris is 12 degrees C / 21 degrees F below the average ! I hope this spring is not the new normal.
ReplyDeleteAhhh Stuart. Who knows what the new normal looks like nowadays... (Does this sound terribly conservative or what?!)
DeleteI'm so sorry to hear about this terrible spring (?) weather. But your friends certainly know how to deal with it! BTW, I once stopped for Berthillon when it was snowing. :~}
ReplyDeleteIt's supposed to be in the 30's here overnight! Where is spring? Love this photo, though. It would make a great Christmas or New Years card. Looks very inviting.
ReplyDeleteEric, thank you for giving us a daily window on Paris. I wonder if you would ever consider posting very short videos with audio instead of only static photos?
ReplyDeleteLooks cosy and nice!
