La Cartoucherie is a famous place in Paris, but I had never visited it until very recently. It's located in the Bois de Vincennes and used to be a munitions factory (hence its name in French). In the 70's, it was converted into a unique multi-theater complex under the management of Ariane Mnouchkine, a very famous French stage director. It's a definite must see if you love theater (check the program here).
Quite a difference between its original use and what goes on there now!
ReplyDeleteYou bet!
DeleteThat's an interesting piece of rust in front of the place.
ReplyDeleteYes I think so too, that's why I included it in the photo!
DeleteThat interesting piece of rust could be the witches' cauldron from the accursed 'Scottish Play', the name of which must never pass the lips of those who doth appear in it.
ReplyDeleteEr... I don't get it Drummond. This time you lost me!
DeleteSorry for the late reply, the Shakespeare play Macbeth is supposed to have a curse on it and the actors and the backroom staff don't mention it by name-fearing that it will bring bad luck. Instead they refer to it as 'the Scottish Play'
DeleteThe opening scene features witches round a blazing cauldron.
So now you know! :-)
Exactly right. You don't even mention it when you're performing "Titus Andronicus."
DeleteCertainly not backstage, anyway. It's said you'll bring down the house in absolutely the wrong way. Has this ever actually happened?
ReplyDeleteAnd did you catch a performance of you-know-what? (Just playing it super-safe here.)
ReplyDeleteOK there must be some sort of superstition invloved??? No I did not!
Deletei love your perspective and that rusty old thing looks like what they use here to burn stuff in!
