Here is another very creative windows display from the Galeries Lafayette. It "stars" the most famous perfume in the world : Chanel n°5. Unlike most recent perfumes, this one lasted more than a decade... It was created in 1921 by Ernest Beaux for the unforgettable Coco Chanel and a lot of famous people wore - and still wear - it : Catherine Deneuve, Carole Bouquet, Nicole Kidman and, of course, Marilyn Monroe who once said: "What do I wear to bed? Why, Chanel No. 5 of course."!

A wonderful photo, Eric! They could use it for a print ad!
ReplyDeleteOooo very sexy, Eric!
ReplyDelete...the photo isn't bad either ;)...
Hey, that's my favorite!!! "Cool" and classy display :)
ReplyDeleteDidn't know the history of Chanel No. 5. Thanks for the information. Display is great!
ReplyDeleteSo perfect. Might be a favorite.
ReplyDeleteTic tac, tic tac... 1921, wow, comme le temps passe!
ReplyDeleteAs long as she doesn't bend over... n'est-ce pas? ;)
ReplyDeleteC'est magnifique! Now this is a window display. I love the brown tint photos, like the 1920s. And the timeless passage of time theme. But oh, Pont Girl, I couldn't disagree with you more... (Oh, you guys! You're all the same. Actually, not really. Have you met...!)
ReplyDeleteOh, I forgot. Friday night I'll be at the annual French American Chamber of Commerce dinner in Minneapols. On the 50th floor of the city's tallest building, full French dinner, and a silent auction. Maybe I'll get two nights at the Paris Hilton this year. How else can I afford 0.69 Euros to the dollar?
ReplyDeleteWhen I pulled up this picture,I immediately focused on the bottle of perfume. At the same time I heard my husband in the backround say,"What a great photo!" I'm thinking , when did he turn so meterosexual? Oh well, I wanted a bottle of Chanel #5, I guess I'll have to buy some white stockings instead.
ReplyDeleteNaughty Jeff, tres naughty!
ReplyDeleteI'm a baaaad boy.
ReplyDeleteAhem...I have to admit Jeff, your eyes spotted those legs a lot faster than mine! Super shot Eric, but "this one lasted more than a decade... seems a bit understated. More like 8 decades!
ReplyDeleteHi Eric! I like your PDP site... it's great with all the pics :D i was wondering if u might be interested in exchanging links with me? would like to feature your site in mine ^^
ReplyDelete-live life to blog-

I heard that Coco Chanel answered once, when asked her opinion about mini-skirts which had just come out, something along the lines of, "Why would I like them? Nobody, and I mean nobody, has pretty knees!"
ReplyDeleteBending over is always very good for a gentleman's health. Pont girl should consider its benefits as Jeff has alluded to.
ReplyDeleteMarilyn Monroe, (who shares a birthday avec moi), would be one of the first to agree.
All that, combined with Chanel n°5, is the perfect start to any pleasant Friday night.
Aujourd'hui il fait 39 degrés dans le terre toute dessous, - un week-end joyeux à tout le monde !
Eric
ReplyDeleteThis is by far my favourite picture. It has everything... sensuality, glamour, class and it is so very artistic.
Perfect in everyway...
My mom always wore Chanel No.5 when I was little. I had no idea she was so stylish!
ReplyDeleteWow! This all-inclusive photo does appeal to our varied and timeless senses, indeed. Great shot, Eric!
ReplyDeleteHmmm, is Cyndi Lauper singing 'Time After Time', in the background? Bon week-end a tous. Profitez pleinement de votre temps libre...
Well, Michael and Eric, I was so transfixed with the clocks and Chanel No. 5 wrapped up in gorgeous south sea pearls that I didn't even notice the legs until you mentioned them, Michael, in fact, I didn't get the earlier comment about the young lady bending over ... must be getting old OR it could be that M.B so far has omitted to add a bottle of Chanel No. 5 to my collection of exclusively Yves St Laurent "Opium" (which I've been wearing for the last, OMG, 30 years. So much for change being the spice of life - I'll have to mend my ways!)
ReplyDeleteMy mother had a bottle of Chanel No. 5. she never wore it but I used to always open it and smell it. The smell still reminds me of her; I wish she would have known to wear the perfume even though its expensive. I now wear CoCo Chanel but, I wear it daily.
ReplyDeleteMy great-grandmother used to wear a small vial of Chanel n°5 around her neck and she would open it on Christmas day for one hour so the whole family could crowd around and have a smell… those were the days!
ReplyDeleteMy 3 year old just discovered her mom's Chanel no5. I think she's got good taste for a wee one...just glad she didn't try to taste it. :-) Love this shot Eric and the history of who wore Chanel. Merci!
ReplyDeleteGreat photo...it definitely evokes the romance and style associated with Chanel. Michael I have to agree with her, while shopping for shorts for a trip this past summer and discovering there wasn't one pair of men's shorts that wasn't above the knee I told the clerk..."after a certain age, NO ONE wants to look at a man's knees"! LOL.
ReplyDeleteFor a woman's parfum though...I prefer Joy by Jean Patou, and for a man...Guerlain of course.
OH MY GOD! I absolutely LOVE this photo!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's excellent Eric! Congrats!
Of course I love the perfum too and the whole Chanel thing... so chic!
It reminds me of the Marilyn Monroe exhibition I saw a few weeks ago, the one with her last photos taken for Vogue magazine that was also held in Paris at Musée Maillol last year.
The exhibition finally arrived here and it was worth waiting to see it.
Beautiful. The kind of photo I aspire to take.

ReplyDeleteMme.Benaut, right away! Your wish is my command!
ReplyDelete:-)
Great photo - you have captured a lot in this shot. Very sexy.
ReplyDeleteI believe the complete quote from Marilyn was: "I wear Chanel No. 5 to bed, and nothing else..."
ReplyDeleteGreg
And I wear it too, but not yet famous!
ReplyDeleteJust discovered your site this afternoon (Sunday, France time) and absolutely love it.
In fact all three sites are amazing - so inspirational, interesting and informative.
Love your photography too.
Will be back daily, as you suggest!
