A drink by the Palais Royal

If you came to Paris, you probably went to the Palais Royal (Royal Palace), and you probably had a drink at this café called Le Nemours, right by the entrance of the Palace (facing the Place Colette, from where I took this photo) . It's a very nice location to sit and watch the people go by, as I did this morning while I was having breakfast (actually it looks empty in this photo because I took it very early, but it's generally very busy!).

  1. This is such a pretty photo. I'd love to be sitting in such a cafe people watching.

  2. I love the Palais, le jardin, le font, et Place Colette. I confess I've not taken the opportunity to enjoy Le Nemours. I also like Place Andre Malraux nearby with its pretty Baroque fountain.

    Aaah, Paris, my love, you seem to be doing quite well without me!

  3. Eric... I started following your site after Prof. Turley shared his experiences of his recent vacation which highlighted his experiences with you in Paris.. I lived in Paris for a while a few years ago and loved every moment...

    Something that I've rarely seen, is an exposé for a weekend of shopping at Fauchon.... I don't think travelers kow much about that place but it is spectacular.... Do you or any of your pals ever just wander in that neighborhood? It would be interesting to get your perspective..

    Thanks.......

  4. On June 6, 2009, you showed a different side of this Café. I almost doubted it was the same one, my memories were not clear, I checked and I can confirm, it is:

    The photo today is typical of a Fall day with the dead leaves we can see on the ground. A little wind could blow them up easily. Sitting there people watching is a nice thought.

  5. What a nice, typical Paris shot. This is the kind of photo that makes me long for Paris sooo badly...

  7. Sigh...a cafe crema and a croissant this morning would seem heavenly. Instead, I've got sick kids and laundry waiting for me. Ah, well, a girl can dream, can't she? Thanks for helping the dream live on, Eric! :)

  8. Eric, you didn't mention the Métro entrance, one of Paris's best...

  9. It's a great setting for a cafe. Any time I've passed it's always been packed. Must try to get out of bed earlier.

  11. Beautiful and oh so achingly Parisian. And, there's the good old blue and gold signature set of colors - I'm absolutely in love with the reflections. Merci pour le moment pur et tranquil!

  12. You're right—I had a kir there last time I was in Paris (and the time before that)! Took pictures too, but none from the famous Tenin angle. :~}

  15. I have friends visiting from Belgium and was just telling them earlier about this café, which was in the opening scene of the movie "The Tourist", where Angelina Jolie sat drinking tea, waiting for instructions. No wonder - it's spectacular!

  16. Eric, I like to think of myself as a morning person, but in reality, I'm a stay up late, get up late person, especially when in Paris.

  17. It is such a fabulous location that I had lunch there in the middle of a freezing February OUTSIDE under one of those big heater "umbrellas". It's THE PLACE!
