Like every year the Fête de la musique (Music Feast) took place in Paris (and in many cities around the world) last evening. It was already its 30th anniversary! Fortunately the rain stopped around 6pm and gave way to hundreds of mini and maxi concerts all over the city. I spent most of my time in the Palais Royal, where the Play Me I'm yours "movement" installed a bunch of pianos around the main pond. The kids were extatic! Check out this little Animoto (now in HD).
I have been lucky enough to see Fete de la Musique once a few summers ago. I'd have been right there at the PR with you Eric. How marvelous.

How fun! The website says they are all over the city. I love the one you featured here. I've always loved subway tiles.
ReplyDeleteJust read that they were in my city in 2010. Who knew???
ReplyDeletePrecious, every child is a musician. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat photo & Animoto, Eric! I also like how you captured the little girl to the left of the piano who looks like she is about to take a dive into the pool.
ReplyDeleteChicago celebrates this as well! Today our classical station, WFMT, broadcast from 5 (of the 75) different venues that were hosting music. It was a fantastic day and we have the French to thank for it! Merci!
ReplyDeleteWonderful photo. And I love this idea. Just can't resist the invitation to sit down and make music....
ReplyDeleteGreat fun, and in one of my favorite locations in Paris.
ReplyDeleteHey! We are having a "Diner en Blanc" in Minneapolis on Saturday. I just received an invitation. Just like in Paris: we'll meet at a friend's house and wait for the e-mail with the location. This will be interesting!
Why are signs in English, or have you a special translating lens.
ReplyDelete@Stewart "Why are signs in English, or have you a special translating lens." It's because the "<a href="http://streetpianos.com/paris2012/>Play Me I'm Yours</a>" originates from the UK.
ReplyDeleteThanks Eric, never seen this before and it's been all round the world. Obviously haven't made it to Edinburgh yet.
ReplyDeleteI just love the Fete de la musique. We were in Paris at this time in 2008 on a warm, balmy midsummer night. What's happened to the summer this year?
ReplyDeleteThese pianos are brilliant, kids have no inhibitions. It must be difficult to keep them in tune.(the pianos, not the kids)
@Virginia "I'd have been right there at the PR with you Eric. How marvelous." In fact I also went to Invalides and a few other places, but it's really hard to move around on those Fete de la musique nights.
ReplyDelete@ET Suzy "The website says they are all over the city." Yes they will be... I'll be watching!
@Sandy "we have the French to thank for it! Merci!" Thank YOU!
@Jeff "Hey! We are having a "Diner en Blanc" in Minneapolis on Saturday." Yeaaaaaaaaaah! I WANT to see some photos of it (and you of course). Is it the same principle? You're invited through friends of friends?
@Drummond " What's happened to the summer this year?" tell me about it! I'm so fed up not being able to plan anything outdoor.
I don't remember a pond in the Palais Royal gardens. Is it new? Or is it where the striped posts and fountain are/used to be?
ReplyDeleteNice work !!! Interesting musical diddy with the display of the pianos... Did you get any of the piano sound??
ReplyDeleteIf not, no matter.... GOOD fun!!
I must admit.. I REALLY miss living there...
ReplyDelete@Grier "don't remember a pond in the Palais Royal gardens. Is it new?" No, I think it's always been there. It's not a big pond, though, that is why you may have forgotten about it!
ReplyDelete@Winski. "Did you get any of the piano sound??" I did. But I removed it from the video for it was not really interesting (too many players at the same time!)
I'm late, but I still have to say . . . what a fantastic idea!
ReplyDeletePlay me I'm yours visited Tilburg in 2011. Really nice to see what inspiration people get out of it
ReplyDeleteI love this. London had it too :)
