Who says you have to be French to make a good pâtissier (pastry chef)? But you may have to come to France at some stage! That's what David Lebovitz did in 2004 after he worked and learned his art in the US (California in particular). Yesterday (Saturday) he had a book signing for the release of his latest opus (Ready for Dessert
Omg!!! I was there, too. I was there around 4:30, Eric, when did you go? Did you have the popcorn and macaroons? I did, washed down with some white wine they had. I showed him that I had his app on Paris pastries, as I felt bad that I didn't buy a book, being a fan of his.
ReplyDeleteThat's funny. Well I took this photo at 5:13 according to my camera. So I must have arrived at 5...
ReplyDeleteI did have macarons and a little bit of popcorn ;-) And stunning "madeleine" on the ground floor.
Shame I did not see you though, It would have been fun.
I wish I had been there too. I am a big fan of David. I love his blog and I have all his books. Phx and Eric, I envy you!
ReplyDeletePopcorn and macarons? The two major food groups, as far as I'm concerned. Although I'm surprised they didn't serve a "scoop" of something. I'm a big fan of David too, so I envy you (and PHX), but thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun. Sorry I missed your December 1 post. I love your passage. (I loved it even before I knew you lived there, so don't be too proud!) I would have commented except when I came home from work my kitchen sink plumbing was clogged and I worked on it until midnight before finally making it function.
ReplyDeleteI like to follow him on twitter! Im @lynncherylede - he ' s very entertaining :)
ReplyDeleteThe new book is called "Ready for Dessert"-- "The Perfect Scoop" has been an ice-cream-lover's favorite for quite a while now :) But I was there too and totally loved the popcorn!
ReplyDeleteOoops... Sorry David! (This explains why I was surprised he would release an ice cream book in December...).
ReplyDeleteIt's fixed now!
ReplyDeleteEverybody was there! Sounds like fun. I was at a book signing last night, too, but not exactly in Paris.
ReplyDelete@Petrea What about your book BTW? Did iyou release it already? I don't recall having seen something about it?
ReplyDeleteThank you for asking, Eric! I hope to have it out this month. This is the first time I've done this, so things take longer than I knew. But January at the latest. If you haven't heard anything about it, it hasn't happened. I will be a loudmouth about it!
ReplyDeleteDavid's blog is wonderful, have been following him for years. I was lucky to have several of his special desserts when he was at Chez Panisse in Berkeley...we both worked for the same "Food Mafia!!"...LOL!!
