OK, I'm feeling really better now, time for me to go back to my normal life - and start taking photos again! In the meantime here is a classic Paris scene: a Wallace fountain. There are about 120 of these fountains in Paris and like I already explained they were named after Sir Richard Wallace - a very wealthy Scottish-French philanthropist who used part of his money to improve the life of Parisians. Most of them are green, but a few are red.

How wonderful! Thank you Sir Richard Wallace! (I hope most Parisians know what he did and are grateful!)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're feeling better, Eric. Just don't overdo!
ReplyDeleteLove the yellow and blue in the photo and the sultry feeling of the tree over the fountain.
Very happy for your recovery Eric! Thank you for the picture :)
ReplyDeleteLexie
I saw several of these when I visited Paris in May. Thanks for sharing the history.
ReplyDeleteThe ornament does bring that age to the overall feel of the photo.
ReplyDeleteA great picture to bring out the retro feel of the place.
Welcome back to the land of the living! Nice photo!
ReplyDeleteso glad you're doing better!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back!
ReplyDeleteWhere in Paris is this Wallace fountain located? Down here in Bordeaux there are seven Wallace fountains to be spotted, three of which date way back to 1873 while the others are more recent models. I wrote a piece about them which features on my website Invisible Bordeaux. I know that throwing the link in there now makes me look like some clever autobot trying to drive traffic through to an unrelated subject but I promise it is a genuine piece about the Wallace fountains of Bordeaux! :-)
No hard feeling Tim! Your approach is very subtil and DOES bring a pice of info, so I'm all for it ;-) There seem to be a larger variety of shades (I did not say 50!) than in Paris. Here we have dark green and red!
Delete:-) Keep up the great work and greetings from Bordeaux!
DeleteGlad you're feeling in the pink, Eric! Are you well enough to go find whoever graffiti'd that beautiful Wallace fountain and give him a piece of my mind? :~}
