Unlike a lot of people I'm not a big fan of traditional markets, like the many we have in Paris - and in France in general - but from time to time I like to visit one, just for the scenery. The Montorgueil one is particularly nice as, not only it's kept a certain traditional flavor, but on top of that it's a very bobo (Bourgeois Bohême) place with lots of interesting bars and cafés in which you can see and be seen. In the morning, you can actually find people who really do their daily shopping, like these ones I caught in the eye of my camera.
A good slice of life shot. And the pattern of the stones is lovely!

ReplyDeleteAnd of course this girl got up this morning and thought "I'm just gonna put on my coat and rain boots hop on my bike and go get some sugar"....right. That darn French girl looks spectacular.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could shop like a Parisian on a daily basis. Reminds me of a Collette story where a woman stops at a neighborhood fruit stand on the way home and picks out the perfect peach which she places on a window ledge to ripen.
ReplyDeleteWhy aren't you a fan of traditional markets?
ReplyDeleteI don't know, I don't like to shop for groceries so I don't want to spend too much time on it. At the market you have to wait your turn, discuss with the shopkeeper, etc. It takes much more time. When I'm on vacation, it's a different story though...
DeleteYes Maria, I often think that myself when looking at a photo of a French lass. ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh, that would be me. I love shopping at the market! Market day when I lived in Bolivia was my favorite day! I was bummed it only happened once a week. This looks gorgeous though. Can you imagine the fresh bread? Yum. Pain au chocolat would not make it home.
ReplyDeleteAhhhhh fresh bread!
DeleteI like markets, but they can be a bit intimidating for a visitor. I also like the idea of buying what you need and then going home and cooking it on a daily basis.......in theory if not in practice!
ReplyDeleteSo, would you consider yourself a bit of a bobo Eric?
OK, Eric, admit it now: you liked that big splash of green color the "old" garbage can added:)hahaha!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great picture!!! Captures what I think of when I think of Paris, cobblestone streets, ladies and their bikes with a basket with a baguette and bottle of wine. Oh how I need to come back and visit :)
ReplyDeleteLOL
DeleteI love the markets for taking pictures (and I love yours), but I'm happy to eat (and "cook") something yummy from Picard! :~} You too, I think—oui?
ReplyDeleteOui oui oui ! For I'm lazy lazy lazy!
DeleteI love the markets and you got the best markets in Paris and the Montorgueil is my absolute favourite.merci Eric ,for a great photo
