Election time

It's election times... At the end of this month we have to elect the future mayor of Paris... In fact it's a little more complicated: we vote for a mayor in our arrondissement (there are 20 in Paris), then these mayors elect a super mayor who becomes Le Maire de Paris. The French political scene is not too inviting at the moment in France (is it anywhere?!), but I'll vote because it's a right only few people have in the world...

  1. Thank you for voting Eric. Too many people take this privilege and responsibility (it should be a right) for granted. My grandfather moved from the south of the USA to the north. Had he stayed in the south, he would not have been allowed to vote until the late 1960s. He moved north for the work and the increased freedoms. When I go to the polls, all my ancestors stand in that place with me. Here in California, we can vote by mail, but until this very moment, I never realized why I have continued going to the polls in spite of the nuisance it sometimes is. (And I like to get the little lapel sticker that says "I voted," which you do not get if you vote by mail.)

  2. I vote in each election here... though I find myself compelled to vote for parties I wouldn't normally support while waiting for the one I would to shed itself of neocons, religious zealots, and hyperpartisan loons.

  3. Thank you, Eric. I dislike politics, especially they way they've been going in the U.S., but like Sasho and William I continue to vote. It's important for us all to take advantage of the privilege, and I feel proud and excited every time I do it.

  4. We have to vote here otherwise there are severe penalties. However like everyone above, I think of all those who don't have a voice, and so don't mind fronting up to the polls. Trouble is I'm not keen on any of our political parties at the moment.
