Colour prints

Althought it has a pretty small circulation (330 000 monthly daily copies in 2004) Le Figaro is one of the main French daily papers. A renewal in the management has recently led to many changes including a move from 37 rue du Louvre (1st arrondissement) to 14 boulevard Haussmann (9th arrondissement). The old building (shown here) is now being redone and during the work they put colour shades on the windows. At night it gives a pretty nice view. Well, so I thought!

  1. This is really cool Eric. It reminds me of the designs from the late American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. I'm surprised by the low circulation numbers of Le Figaro. It is a very well known newspaper worldwide. They can't be doing too bad to be moving to Blvd Haussmann though!

  2. Are you sure it's "monthly copies" and not "daily copies" ? After all, Le Figaro is a daily newspaper !
    BTW, joyeux nanivverssaire, ERIC !!!

  3. Nice effect! Strange how it came about by accident, as this could pass for a work of art. It may be temporary, but you have captured it for posterity.

  4. Eric, I think Isido is right about the 330 000 copies, thought it's still very compared to the figures of the press in other countries.
My bus drives every day in front of that building, first occasion to stop my reading and look up before a certain pair of windows above passage Jouffroy…
Interesting to, I find, is the Art Déco entrace hall of that building which used to be blinded when the Figaro was there and that one can see at the moment, with a sculptur of the Parisian "Nave" (there must be a "fluctuat nec mergitur" somewhere in the composition…)

  5. Oooops, looks like I made a big mistake! Of course it is daily figures and not monthly ones... (thank you Isido)

It is very low, you're right Michael, but French people do not read much of daily press, they are more into magazines and TV and... more and more the Internet.

All newspapers have to adapt, and I know what I am talking about!!!

  8. In the beginning I believed that it was the registered office of the stores "mondiale moquette"
    because of the colors...

    But of course not !

  12. I like it! I can see a little bit of Frank Lloyd Wright in there, too, although poor guy, I don't know how he would feel if he knew we associate his work with some accidental display of color on a construction site.
