Soaking in culture!
I passed by the Louvre today and it was really hot - I'm talking hot!. The tourists are suffering too, so they found a nice way of admiring the Louvre and its pyramid, while refreshing themselves a little... I found it was cool - and I'm surprised they let them do that as a sign makes it clear that jumping into the water is strictly prohibited. As for me, I'll wait for Paris Plage which is due to open today (Tuesday 20th of July)!!

It does look refreshing, but at the Louvre? I could never do that. At least, not without a friend for moral support.
ReplyDeleteIs the warning sign in French? Perhaps these tourists don't speak the language.
ReplyDeleteI highly recommend the terrace at Cafe Richelieu, under an umbrella, where you get a nice breeze and a good lunch while looking down on the pyramid and its reflection on the Denon wing.
ReplyDeleteIncidentally, the firewall at work is preventing my comments from getting through. I'm sure millions of PDP fans are unhappy at not experiencing my wit. lol small letters
Jeff’s description makes me feel like I’m right there.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy this photo, Eric. Maybe the security guards are too kind to tell people not to dip their toes on such a hot day.
ReplyDeleteGary, what can't you find on the web?
Very cool, Eric—in more ways than one! Hey, it's not like these poor overheated folks are swimming in the pool. I'm glad they were allowed to dip their tootsies—and that you were there to catch it.
ReplyDeleteTG -- as Petrea just said . . . though that lunch does look like the same thing they serve at my local diner here in Brooklyn. Where's the fois gras, people?!?
I'm glad the authorities let them cool off.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot Eric!
Yes, perhaps a little toe-dipping could be safely overlooked.
ReplyDeleteits the heat - i makes people crazy.
ReplyDeleteI was lucky enough to be in Paris a mere two weeks ago. It was HOT. I took a very similar photo but didn't get to dip my toes along with everyone else. I was very surprised that day that the Louvre wasn't airconditioned. It was awful inside, very stuffy, crowded and everyone desperately trying to fan themselves for a bit of relief. I suspect these people were trying to cool off after they came out of the Louvre.
ReplyDeleteLet's hope that the Cafe Richelieu doesn't use the fountain for its water supply.
ReplyDeleteYou need to live life a bit more on the edge Eric. Go on, dip a toe in, you know you want to!
That looks like fun! I would totally do that if I were there, my hands too. I love a good fountain.
ReplyDeleteI was a tourist in Paris during the heat wave of 2003 and this was sorely tempting. Didn't partake though, being of the law-abiding persuasion. As an alternative, we wandered in the frozen-food aisles of Monoprix from time to time -- the few degrees' improvement in those aisles helped! Great shot, BTW. ;-)
ReplyDelete" Maybe the security guards are too kind to tell people not to dip their toes on such a hot day."
ReplyDeleteI think maybe they're just too hot to care ;)
Yeah, being a tourist in Paris during a heat wave isn't fun at all.
@TG...What were they having, Tuna Sandwiches and Chips???? LOL!!!! Not even a Salade Nicoise??? That was funny!!!!
ReplyDelete@Tall Gary Cute little friend ;-) (The water at Le Louvre is far less blue though...)
ReplyDelete@Brattcat "Is the warning sign in French?" Well, it's just a drawing. No language involved...
@Jeff. Looks good (I just checked Café Richelieu on the Internet.) I have never been there - only to the Marly.
@Petrea "Gary, what can't you find on the web?" Good question!
@Alexa "Where's the fois gras, people?!?" Foie gras is not good in summer ;-)
@Louise " I was very surprised that day that the Louvre wasn't airconditioned" Yeah, weird. I would have thought it was.
@Drummond "Let's hope that the Cafe Richelieu doesn't use the fountain for its water supply." LOOOL. Only you can think of this...
I guess the heat in Paris wins!
ReplyDeleteI did the exact same thing there in the Louvre 3 years ago. Wasn't sure if it was allowed or not. Of course I saw other people doing it (monkey see, monkey do) so I took advantage of it and just laid there.
One of my best memories of Paris!
