The end of "la grève"?

There was another demonstration today in Paris - still against the new age of retirement. It took place just outside my door, between Republique and Opera, but I was busy working so I only saw the remains tonight, on the way back home... One of them being this sticker on a street sign saying Grève générale (General strike), that can also be read as Rêve général (General dream...) ;-) Anyway, I watched the news last night and there were much less people in the streets than before. Not to mention that gas/petrol stations have reopened. I think the age of retirement is now officially 62 (or 67 for those who started working late)...

  1. Well, the strikes may be diminishing, but we should be aware of how things change--or don't change due to the new law. I anticipate the effects will be subtle in the short term, but real. The main effects will play out over time.

Still on the scooter in the cold? It is 38 F (3 C) here right now. But much warmer in Paris, I see. Just something else to be jealous about!

  3. J'espere bien—for a return to la vie normale and petrol for Eric's scooter! (Though I doubt we've heard the end of this.) You've been very discreet, Eric, but I hope you love your work and are okay with staying at your job a bit longer.

  4. Gas stations are not all re-opened, Eric! Maybe it's OK again in Paris, but I can tell you it's not the same everywhere... In the Loire Valley (where I live), it will probably not be back to "standard" before middle of next week ;-((

  5. I can only say: Go on dreaming, we have one of three trains running, we still have no petrol everywhere, the post office is open or closed, the mail is being distributed or not, you get updates or not..... I am glad it works for you though, Eric.
France is not very popular with our visiting friends right now... AND in our country we have to work till 65 resp. 67 already since ages and ages and guess what: Nobody complains, we are just simply thankful to have work! Although I DO envy people who can take pre-retirement, of course... lol - being only human... :)
Excellent photo, love the bokeh and your take of a rève!!!

  7. Whatever it is, the end of the strikes or the end of the general dream (which often has to happen one day), I smiled reading you, in the meanwhile, were busy Eric. Hope you do wonderful things. Really.

  9. Good to know that peace is again in the streets. Dreams? Sometimes a general strike is a bad dream but it's necessary.

  10. I think that economic necessity will mean this will have to be accepted eventually.:(

Let's look on the positive side however and celebrate the fact that we live longer and are generally better off these days.:)

I'm following Thib winking to you Eric !! And may it be well interpreted by you.

BTW I have to say I had to use your other website http://www.lestrucsdunjournaliste.com/ for a professional reason and I must thank you. I used it with moderation of course but it was very helpful on the 'droit de réponse' subject.
