I actually did not know how to photograph this sculpture initially (a beautiful piece by Daniel Hourdé called "La vérité mise à nue par ses thuriféraires" (don't ask me to translate!), then I found this angle which I find interesting even if you cannot really see the sculpture! Anyway, in the background you probably recognized the Saint-Germain Church. As you can see the rain has returned in Paris...
it's a real art interpretation of the thruth,a masterpiece

I'll go with Anonymous, whose translation of thuriféraire makes more sense than the way I know this word as "the person who carries the incense" (as in a mass). Sorry you're having rain (as are we; it's hurricane season), but it makes for a great photo!

Hmm...interesting. I have to say the church in the background interests me more as it is so very ...unadorned. Not like we think of churches with stained glass and beautiful windows. Just stonework and an arched doorway.

I really love this photo. I love the tonal colors, the rain makes it even more beautiful and then the contrast of the colorful umbrellas. I think it looks like he is trying to break free of some internal demons who have been keeping him from his truth. The internal demons may come from the church or maybe when he is able to get free of them and own his truth he will go to the church with his gratitude. A lot of emotion in it. Thank you for this insiders look at Paris!

ReplyDeleteChristie, the church of St. Germain-Des-Pres is an example of Romanesque architecture, typified by its strong thick walls and its doors and windows with semi-circular arches. This form of architecture preceded the Gothic style with its pointed arches, high vaulted ceilings, lighter walls and large decorative windows, such as Notre Dame Cathedral.
Which makes it a very old church, reputed to be the oldest in Paris.
