Wine harvest in the 11th arrondissement

Last Saturday I got invited to join a bunch of people at "Les Vendanges du Château Charonne", (the Charonne castle wine harvest), Charonne being a street (and an area) in Paris. Needless to say this is all a big joke, as, of course, there aren't any castles over there and just a few grapes. Actually enough to pick up and to put in a few buckets where kids - and adults - can crush them with their feet like in the old days ;-) It was a fun, sunny afternoon, very festive, where I had a wonderful time surrounded by lovely people. Have a look at the owner of the place.

  1. Looks like a FUN day! Grape mashing reminds me of an old I Love Lucy episode where she and Ethel mash grapes in big vats. LOL LOL I laughed so hard I cried.

  6. But the big question: Did anyone drink wine from the grapes that had been crushed like this? You know everyone is wondering. LOL (And did you yourself crush the grapes?

  7. Quel dommage, j'étais à la même heure dans le même arrondissement, presque à côté, cité de la Roquette!!
Et j'ose à peine l'avouer, j'apprécie le bon vin mais je n'ai jamais assisté à des vendanges !

  8. A new varietal and its marketing motto is sweeping the country: Pied d'Eric. "It fuels your scooter!"

  9. @Jeff "Pied d'Eric. "It fuels your scooter!"" LOL

Actually the whole thing was just for fun. 1st the grape must ferment before turning into wine, which takes a lot of time. Then I really don't think any - good - wine could be produced with this grape...

  10. Mashing grapes with feet is not a good thing i thing mashing it with hands of any other thing will be more useful.

  11. Oh? Wine has been made that way for centuries. The story doesn't say if they even washed their feet, but that's how it's been done in the past.
