Another good address...

Here is a place you have to make a note of, if you come to Paris. You'll find it right in the heart of Paris, off the Champs Elysées, but you'll be surprised how quiet it is! Why? Because it's located right in the middle of Le Petit Palais... Tip: when you walk in ask for a free ticket to the "permanent collections", you can then walk in to this little secluded garden and enjoy a two course meal (including a glass of wine and coffee) for 24 € ! BTW, I took this photo Friday morning, as you can see we're having a sort of Indian summer at the moment.

  1. This is an excellent tip, Eric. I hope Genie reads your blog tonight, while she is still visiting Paris.

  2. YES! This is a great place to visit. As Jack says: if you see this post, Genie, definitely go see this museum and at least have cafe in the cafe. It's a pretty spot.

The museum itself is fascinating. I have a Monet print over my bed and discovered that the original is in Le Petit Palais. What fun!

Don't miss the grand portrait of Sarah Bernhardt with her wolfhound. And I particularly liked Giron's "Femme aux gants" dit "La Parisienne". Exquisite painting: the black dress exhibits incredible talent. (I'm cheating by looking at my photos while I write this.)

  3. (Yes, yes, I know that a certain parisienne art history profession might scoff at the 19th century work that seems trite to her, but c'est la vie.)

  5. I like both this museum and the cafe there very much but I would like to ask this: is €24 for lunch a good deal? If it is, prices have surely gone up quite a lot since I was last in Paris!

  6. This looks like a bit of Paris perfection. Does the restaurant have a name?

  7. Oh yeah, this is a fab tip, Eric! Hope Genie sees this and takes advantage—and I definitely will next time I'm there (love that inside info, mon ami!).

  9. I love waking up every morning to a new picture by Eric. This picture has a relaxing element to it. And it's a secret spot which is even better! However, what I truly love are the commentaries that the picture has inspired! I don't know who Genie is, but I, too, hope she sees this while still in Paris!

  12. I 'found' this garden while I was there and thought it was enchanting - but I didn't know you could eat here! I took a photo of the building and the reeds reflected in a pool of water there which is one of my favorites. Another tip in this museum is that on the floor in the galleries to the left, as you enter, you can see what look like fossils in the stone on the floor. (Just pretend you are Eric looking for his next great shot and no one will think you are odd for peering around at floor level!!) ; )

  13. Eric, I've been reading PDP since my Paris trip five years ago. Back then I began a document on my desktop called "Paris to-do list," based on ideas from you and the commenters. I just added this. Imagine how long the list is now!

  14. Eric, another place you may want to explore ( for those chocolate junkies in the crowd ) is a little place I used to visit at least twice a week, is called Cacoa. It's on Rue de Buci off Rue de St. Germaine, a great stolling address for frequent or even in-frequent Paris visitors...

The last I visited, you could buy the purest Cacoa-based treats in the world in this little hideaway and they would ship them anywhere in the world if you ask nicely...

    Yummmmm.....

  15. @Petrea. LOL! Yes, well, when are you coming back?! It's time to cross a few items on that list!

@Winski. Thnaks for the tip. I'll check that?

  16. This place is so quiet, so romantic, and so unexpected, 5mn away from the busy ChampsElysées. I found this is just the perfect place for a 'rendez-vous à 2'. Merci Eric.

  18. Yes, Eric and Petrea...it is definitely time for another trip, especially since I can't remember being in Le Petit Palais...maybe my dreaming about Paris lately is another hint! Autumn...my favorite time of the year in Paris, but I've said that before...

  20. This little courtyard is beautiful and I'd love to be sitting right there. I was at the Petit Palais on a stormy day so sitting here with a cafe was not possible. I love the composition here Eric.

  21. Eric:

It looks like Cacoa has been swept up by another player ! It's still at the same location but probably under a different name. Hopefully the quality is still the same... Old, great neighborhood where I used to live.

  23. Aaah; you shouldn't really have shared it with everybody.... :)
No, what I mean that this place is one of my personally best kept secret places to show to and indulge in with my guests from abroad! It's simply unsurpassable and so close to everything. I've spent many magic and serene moments....
So folks, say THANK YOU to Eric!
