Another sunset over Paris...

I've had a hard day I deserve to go to bed early like the sun did over Paris yesterday... I'm not sure what the bridge in the background is - probably the Pont aux Changes. The road on the right is a sort of highway that crosses Paris from the west to the east; the Paris mayor wants to close it by the end of his "reign". Car owners disagree, pedestrians love the idea...

  1. Holy smoke. As if driving in Paris weren't bad enough for foreigners.

  2. Awww... what a beautiful shot!! I take a photo right where you are *every single time * I go to Paris.

The cars are a bit of a nuisance, sure, but if you close this major artery, it will make crossing Paris even more of a pain than it already is and considerably increase traffic jam everywhere else. People who hate cars that much are shortsighted IMO (they exist, here, too ;)

  3. My dear Eric, your mood comes through your post today--not the photo, which is glorious, but the words. I hope you get the rest you deserve and wake up feeling fantastic tomorrow.

  4. I'm for the pedestrians (hey, I don't drive!), but the lights on the cars make this shot even prettier somehow. Bon dodo, Eric!

  5. Eric, with respect I take issue with your description of this scene. Are you not standing on Pont aux Changes looking westwards towards Pont Neuf?

  9. I am for keeping the road as a road. Paris without cars would be like PDP without Eric, never the same :)
Love the colors in the shot!

  14. This road is already closed on Sunday mornings to allow walkers, cyclists, roller bladers etc. to enjoy it, which is a great idea.
However I'm not so sure about closing it during the working week. Other roads would be even busier. I don't mind the bustle of the traffic. After all Paris is a working city.

Nice photo, hope you slept well zzzz...

  15. Very pretty photo either way, though I think Dermo is correct about which bridge is which. No matter. Beautiful.

Modern civilization has been built around the automobile, for good and bad. I am amazed (and dazed) at how the city has adapted. There are many places to stroll along the Seine, though there are many roads that interrupt the walking. It's an ongoing discussion that will never and should never end.

  16. Eric, I endured several hours of "thanksgiving" in America yesterday. Of family drama, an impromptu wedding being announced (today at 10:), pregnant pauses and political touchiness. I feel like you do.....!
Thanks for the beautiful photo of Paris.

  18. I'm glad your liked this photo. To be honest I hesitated posting it thinking "that's another boring sunset photo over Paris!!"

@Dermo " Are you not standing on Pont aux Changes looking westwards towards Pont Neuf?" Actually i don't think so, but I'm unable to remember!

  19. What a glorious shot...and I agree that closing the street is a noble thought but adding more traffic to other congested streets really isn't the solution...is it??
