Sunday at rue Montorgueil
Lovely day in Paris again this Sunday... I went to rue Montorgueil, a famous street near les Halles, that used to be a working class area in the old times and is now a "Bobo" hangout (bobo stands for BOurgeois BOhème, that is people with money who want to live the Bohème lifestyle). It's a very nice street, no cars - or almost none! - lots of little cafés and shops, historical restaurants like L'Escargot-Montorgueil that was founded in 1875, or the famous Stohrer patisserie founded in 1730 that Queen Elisabeth visited in 2004 (they are pretty proud of it!). It's also the street where this video clip was shot!

Hmm...I like the relaxing surroundings in this area. My hangout, too.
ReplyDeleteWOW! This looks like my kind of place. FUN!
ReplyDeleteKris
LOL!!! Now ask anyone if they even remember what the lyrics to the songs were ;) That was definitly a fun post, Eric (oh, and nice shot, too! ;)
ReplyDelete(I'm surprised there isn't 100 guys following "Baby" ;))
Rue Montorgueil is a pretty stroll, no doubt.
ReplyDeleteI recall you linked that video before. Without the censor bars. Much better, that last one!
Your photo yesterday: superbe!
Rue Montorgueil is probably my favourite spot in Paris, and this pic is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I'll miss the spice shop that was there.. :-(
I see we are back to the classic PDP: informative, energetic and educational....love the depth in this photo!
ReplyDeleteI love strolling down rue Montorgueil. One of my favourite cafés is "Aux Tonneaux Des Halles" 28 rue Montorgueil, you should try to go there, Eric, since it has a lot of photo opportunities.
ReplyDeleteWhile watching the video it occurred to me that it was a mirror image. I checked it out a second time, and it looks mirrored. Just to make sure, I thought I'd better check it out one more time......
ReplyDeleteThis looks fun! I love pedestrian shopping areas, and this looks like one of the best. I'm looking forward to the time when they block our streets for our downtown Christmas tree lighting and Open House...just a few more weeks! :) ~Happy Dance~
ReplyDeleteDrummond -- you're right—all the words were backwards, like a mirror image. The street's a lot quieter on Thursday a 2 p.m., isn't it? This shot looks like Soho on Sunday (and just as many people speaking French!).
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shot of a lovely street for strolling and shopping. Wish I were there. Beautiful blue and gold, too!! BTW I saw La Chamade this weekend - with a very young Catherine Deneuve all confuzzled in love - this street was full of butchers and produce vendors then, I think. : )
ReplyDeleteOh! I just saw the video. How did they know which shoes would go with their outfits? And, yes, Tomate - I can't believe they weren't surrounded and stopped by a crowd. Actually, it cracked me up how many people didn't even break stride or turn to look again - just another boring big city moment,I guess, ho hum.... ; )
ReplyDeleteShe has very boney hips ...
ReplyDelete@Carrie " Actually, it cracked me up how many people didn't even break stride or turn to look again - just another boring big city moment,I guess, ho hum.... ; )" Yeah, I think that says a lot about big city people: "yeah, another naked passer by, don't they have better things to do?"
ReplyDeleteA GREAT older Paris neighborhood... Great browsing streets, amazing shops, every strata of people you can imagine and the vid isn't bad either.... But the best part of the vid is that half the people on the streets as the models and the camera crews scurry by, don't even bat an eye or pay any attention AT ALL. Try this in ANY American city, large or small, and you go to jail...
ReplyDeleteShows you how uptight folks are across the pond to the west.....
The rue looks so much more crowded in your photo than in the video, Eric. They couldn't have shot that video on a day like the day you shot your photo!
