Exceptionally last evening was warm enough for the people to sit outside and enjoy a drink or a picnic by the canal Saint Martin. I love this canal for it offers a very nice perspective from any of the metal bridges that cross it. I already mentioned it several times, but for the records let me remind you that it goes from la Villette to la Seine and was originally commissioned by Napoleon in 1802, in order to supply Paris with fresh water (the Paris population started growing dramatically at that time and a lot of people were dying from dysentery and cholera). Now, it's a only used for navigation purposes.
I LOVE this shot. I feel as though I am right there on the ledge with them. Tell me, would I see the Cork & Caven if I looked to my right?
ReplyDeleteJust six weeks ago, sitting along the canal, we met a darling dog and his personable owner, a youngish woman from Pennsylvania. We saw lots of families playing together. I would love to live along the canal.
ReplyDeleteSuzy, I was thinking the exact same thing. I thought the hair might be Guille, but not with that beard!
ReplyDeleteObviously Guille hasn't told you yet Jeff...
ReplyDeleteLOL Jeff, maybe her husband...
ReplyDeleteLove this part of Paris...it is soooo relaxing to be there.
ReplyDeletePffff... you could have called!! Suzy,i think it is in front of the pub, you're right!

ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite blogs....seeing Paris always makes me happy ;)
ReplyDeleteI really love how this area has changed since I lived there in the '60s! Now I love to go there and have a drink Chez Prune—and next time, across the canal Chez Guille!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great place to be at! We went on a tour of this canal on a boat and it was one of the most delightful things we did, while vacationing in Paris.
ReplyDeleteThanks for bringing back a fond memory!
Peace :)
