Vintage car rallye

No it's not an old photo that I found in my attic, but one I took last Sunday in the Bois de Boulogne. This old De Dion Bouton (a French manufacturer from the late 1880's) was actually taking part in a "race" leaving from the Invalides to Rambouillet, a city located 55 kilometers (34 miles) away from Paris. Funny as hell. Especially because most of the drivers and passengers were dressed like in the old times. More on the web site of the event organizer (in French).

  1. Our intrepid travellers are quite a bunch. Now we know what Santa Claus does for the rest of the year and I do believe that 'Mata Hari' is flashing her bloomers at you. As for the guy with the leather coat and goggles - he could be straight out of a Tin Tin book.
Have a look at the car behind. Is that guy waving or has his car been stolen along with his trousers?

    Great photo.

  2. LOL Drummond!

This event looks like a lot of fun for both the participants and the onlookers.

Eric, I'm curious, did you go to the BdB specifically for this race or did you just happen upon it?

  5. I'm glad to see that people keep collecting and restoring these vehicles. I wonder how long people will do so.

  6. @ET Suzy "Eric, I'm curious, did you go to the BdB specifically for this race or did you just happen upon it?" Actually, it' just pure coincidence. I went to the Champs Elysées at Dawn!! to take the Velib photo of Monday, and I came across these cars, that I followed all the way to the Bois de Boulogne.

  7. My first husband was a car buff and so was his dad. So much so, that his dad gave him a "Model A" car. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Model_A_%281927%E2%80%931931%29

I love old classic cars -- they are so cute. :) I could go on and on with classic car stories.

  8. Lois, my dad was a car guy, too. His funeral procession was led by 15 antiques and hot rods. It was quite special.

Eric, I'm thinking you are the luckiest guy in all of Paris!

  11. Car buffs can head to the Esplanade du Château de Vincennes the first Sunday morning of every month to see a vast number of vintage cars of all makes. It's quite a sight to see so many men, women, children drool at the same time and there's no food involved! On July 29, they will also have a "Traversée de Paris" from Vincennes to Meudon, with the procession going through the capital.
