Christmas animations...

Christmas is everywhere in Paris already... Including on the Champs Elysées (I'm sure you recognized the Arc de Triumph on the right ;-), where I found this animation by perfume maker Guerlain (the oldest French parfumeur which belongs since 1994 to LVMH).  Cute, even though it's very inspired by their latest commercial for "La Petite Robe noir", one of their latest perfumes. Precisely, there is a big controversy (one more!) about Christmas decorations in stores; a lot of people don't like it that a lot of animations no longer are made for kids with no other intentions than to please them, but giant 3D commercials for various brands.

  1. How pretty - I bet it is really pretty at night all lit up. These type of displays are so European -I just love it!

  3. Wow, such a rosy glow! Does the train run along the track, or is it stationary (just for "decoration")?

  4. This amazing display is actually ON the street, right?Seems to me the animations should entertain kids and adults alike—but I have to vote for not making it a big ad for some product.

  6. In the past on work trips, I had only seen a smattering of Christmas displays, yet I was never looking for anything special. This year, while living here, I have been to at least 5 markets already. Gare de L' Est with yummy Items from Alsase, La Defence and Champs E Xmas village, St Germaine and an artists cooperative located in the Louvre's Carrosel. Some differences served in the food booths are hot wine , raclette, but you will see the ever present "hotdog Manhattan". I took a picture of the sign. Street Displays are not as garish as in the states and are understated, in keeping with the French mentality.

  7. @Alexa. Yes, it's right in the middle of the Champs Elysées actually.

@PHX "Gare de L' Est with yummy Items from Alsase" I just saw that from far away this morning on my way to a conference and was considering what it was actually.

  9. This is why I don't go near the Champs E. if I can help it.

If you have a taste for extreme kitsch or you get a kick out of flattering the egos and bank balances of commercial emperors/empresses then this is what you like.

    Bleh!

(But despite this blip, thanks again for the blog!)
