Morning game of shadows

There is very little light in Paris at the moment, due to the season ;-(( But when there is, it can be beautiful. Like the one I grabbed this morning on this very interesting bridge at rue Lafayette (the part that is located in the 10th, not near the famous Galeries). I was on my way to a meeting, running late, but could not help but stopping 30 seconds to shoot! I have shots with and without people, but I finally chose one with. Tomorrow will be even colder than today, but I have to go to another meeting, so... maybe I'll get lucky twice with the light ;-)

  1. It is 2:20 am in Paris and I can't sleep so I went on PDP and what do I see, that horrible bridge I hate to cross near our apartment. I had to wake up Mr PHX to tell him. Because I dislike crossing that expanse, Mr. phx discovered bus #26 which helps navigate the area more quickly. No other reason than it is a boring walk. And freezing in this weather. At least you gave it an artistic touch, Eric. There are not boulangeries and charming stores everywhere in this city. There is a Mexican-Indian restaurant (????) on this walk,) some sex shops after the bridge near Gard du Nord,, Hotel Hors which gives me a laugh, the Halal butcher. Now, I hope I can go to sleep.

  2. If I remember well, this bridge is above the railroad tracks. A funky place indeed. But for an artist, never funky enough.

That time of year gives us chances to work out with strange color palettes. Like here, what you have caught very well. That and the wonderfull play of diagonals.

  3. Goodness, PHX, that does indeed look like a long, cold walk. (Looking at GoogleMap). And I should know: I drove four hours across Minnesota today after a snowstorm that dropped 12" (30 cm). And it's 19 F (-7 C) with a 16 mph (28 km/h) wind. Yeah: long, cold walk. But not Paris.

But: it's a really nice photo, Eric.

  4. Lovely lighting! The people in the picture give it life.

  5. You were right to include the people, Eric. They—and their shadows—add a lot to this interesting composition. As for you, Mme. PHX-who-gets-to-live-in-Paris (!), when I lived there, no one would dream of going near the neighborhood where you are now. The sex shop will probably be a high-end boutique one of these days.

  6. Recognised it immediately. I have crossed this bridge many times and it gives me happy memories. [No matter what the rest of you say!]

Another work of art from Mr. PDP!

  7. The Canal St Martin , as my landlord said, has arrived. BCBG area, but a pain in the neck to get to the center of the city. Crossing that bridge used to kill me until the bus entered my life.
Looked at it today (from the bus) with different eyes after PDP.

  9. I'm pretty sure this is the bridge in Jean-Pierre Melville's film LE SAMOURAI. A famous bridge for film freaks! Thanks!
