It was hard to pick today's photo for I had to 1) comply with the CityDailyPhoto theme (Landmark) and 2) think of the dead, for, in France, today is La Toussaint (all saints day), a day where you're supposed to think of the loved ones that passed away. Then I remembered I had several photos that I took in the Montmartre cemetery, which definitely qualifies as a Paris Landmark and of a tomb of a famous painter who died in 1927: Edgard Degas (originally spelled "de Gas"). By adding a spooky colo(u)r, it could also have qualified for Halloween, but it's not really a French tradition, so no need to add more constraints ;-)
I like the sombre tone of the shot. A fitting choice for the theme.
ReplyDeleteThis is my favorite cemetery in Paris!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully done, Eric. I didn't know that about de Gas! More information about the Norton Simon museum in Pasadena: we have several of his statuettes (models) here. Paintings, too. But the statuettes are my favorites.

You sent me to my photos of the Degas works I've seen. Now that we can't take photos at the Musee d'Orsay anymore, I'm glad I have my old photos from there. The Norton Simon museum in Pasadena has a great casting of the fourteen year old dancer that I love, as well as many great Degas paintings. The Getty has a marvelous pastel. Yes, I'm thinking of the dead, but also remembering his eternal art. -Jeff
ReplyDeleteWhoa! Petrea! You posted while I was looking at my photos! -Jeff
ReplyDeleteThe young dancer is my favorite. Eric, the last time I saw it I was with Jeff and Tall Gary!
ReplyDeletePerfect choice on all counts, and with or without constraints.
ReplyDeleteWell played! A cool shot with or without constraints.
ReplyDeleteLovely! Must visit place for sure.... looking forward to it. Thank you for a great picture, Eric.
