The return of the Ferris Wheel

A very seasonal post, that you may be tired of: the Ferris wheel... Every year in November they install it on the place de la Concorde and they leave it until March. When you're on top, it's probably the best view on the Champs Elysées and beyond that you can have of Paris. That is if you're not afraid of heights of course, like me ;-( As you probably guessed this photo was taken from the Tuileries gardens.

  1. I certainly wouldn't have a problem with the heights!

  2. Since the Statue of Liberty came from France, it's fitting that a Ferris Wheel is in Paris every year. As I've noted before, the first Ferris Wheel was created for the Chicago World's Fair a few years after the Eiffel Tower was erected for the Paris World's Fair. Chicago wanted something spectacular to "out-Eiffel Eiffel" and they chose Mr. Ferris' new invention. It had gondolas the size of railroad cars that held many people. On a different note, we expect 6 to 12 inches of snow tonight and tomorrow here. I would not want to be up on a Ferris Wheel in that! -Jeff

  3. I just saw the Paris Ferris wheel last night in the movie "The Lovers on the Bridge" with Juliette Binoche.

  4. A different—and great—view of the Big Wheel. I've wanted to go up—but while I'm not afraid of heights, Ferris wheels scare me silly!

  5. It's a poor photograph however as I am now being censored for giving Tenin a 'heads-up' on his work...not the pandering comments such as 'a dramatic and lovely shot' which it might be to some observers. Unless Mr Tenin is a disabled person who is 'koala'd' the fact that most comments avoid commentary on the actual image is itself a criticism but one which unlike mine will do nothing to get him to lift his game...which he should be proud to do.
