Although its creator (Hergé) was Belgium Belgian, Tintin takes a large part in the French culture; there is not a single French kid that has not read at least one Tintin album in his life! Adults love him too and there are so many fans that there are even Tintin shops like this one, that I found at the end of Boulevard Saint Germain (5th arrondissement). If you want to know more about Tintin, Captain Haddock, La Castafiore (ah, je ris...) and Dupond and Dupont then pay a visit to this excellent site.

[Sorry for the previous comment that I posted too quickly by mistake.]
Please get rid of that goddam spam on your blog (go see how Elisabeth handles unsollicited comments).
One little comment on today's post: Hergé was "Belgian" (nationality), not "Belgium" (country).
Best regards to you and keep up with the fine blog.

  4. OOOOps, I am sorry, posted that too quickly and did not proof read it. It serves me right!

Fx, yes I know I could use the antispam system that Blogger offers but then people need to enter letters and this would probably bother them.

I try to clean the comments as much as I can (so far it's not too bad) but if it gets worse then I may use the antispam thing.

    Thanks anyway.

  5. The antispam thing is a bit of a pain for people who want to comment, but it's effective.

I adore Tintin (my other object of devotion in the great world of cartoons is Peanuts.) I wrote an entry on Tintin on my blog in October, 2004. One of my favorite possessions is a "Tintin a New York" t-shirt that I bought in France in 1995. it is totally worn out, but I still keep it.

  8. (A little feedback on Blogger's spamminator: personally, I think it's a real pain in the neck! The whole commenting system leaves a lot to be desired on Blogger, if you ask me, but hey, the price is right...)

    Ah, Tintin...

  9. AH Tintin ! I give a special homage to belgium for everything they gave to us. Tintin au Congo, Tintin au tibet, Objectif lune, Coke en Stock, Le lotus bleu, etc.. etc.. Don't forget these belgian comics : Gaston, Achille Talon, Boule et Bill, Spirou, Alix. Yes, Belgium is my childhood.

  11. In my French class here in the states, we even had lessons about Tintin, and read some. We also watched the comic about the little red-haired viking.. but his name escapes me. Thanks Eric!

  16. I see Tintin wakes up a lot of memories!! I understand from Kevin that they even use him in the States to learn French!!

Haggard Dunord, you must be right JP. Cause Asterix is not red haired is he?? And what?! Asterix is Breton. What is that story?

    > Kenospunkt. Is that the name of Tintin (Tim) and his dog Milou (Struppi)?

    > Luc. Done!

  17. asterix! Yes, that's the one! And yes, I was wrong, he has yellow hair!

  18. Je crois qu'Astérix est gaulois, les Bretons sont arrivés un peu après lui en Armorique. Enfin, pas sûr, et peu importe :)
