Really Smart Car

Do you remember this post where I explained how this little car - called La Smart, in French - was used to run advertising campaigns? Well here is another one, precisely to promote this car. Basically it says: "2,50 meters long; a pleasure to park" for "Only 5,50 € per day". Have a good week...

  1. These things are fantastic but look horrible. I saw one of thes cars being driven at 70MPH into a 5 ton concrete block, and teh doors could still opne after the impact.

  2. Hi Eric,

5,50 euros a day - not bad at all. Can't sleep in it though.

  3. I got sold on this when I saw someone (obviously one of the hotel guests, I am quite certain) being picked up by a smart car in front of the Ritz. Just kidding, although the anecdote is true. I love those things and own a miniature one - I just had to have one.

  4. Frankly, I find the advertising quite "smart", but the car still looks like a toy to me.

  6. Hmm, reminds me of my golf cart that we zoom (max speed of 20 mph) around the island on. Gee, maybe I should consider this little baby as another source of mobility.
    Great shot, as always.

  7. I find amusing the fact that the side panels have space enough for only two sentences.

But the cars are perfect for city driving ...

  8. Haven't seen one in San Francisco yet. I drive a small Japanese car myself, but next to the Smart, it looks like a Buick.

  9. I think I've seen these Smart cars here in Toronto, but I have no idea how popular they would be...it doesn't look like it could handle our winter weather. I do, however, love my mini cooper! And since we've had very little snow this winter so far (knock on wood), it's been great!

  10. Eric,
When we saw these in Paris, I felt they were so cute I'd like to put one in my pocket. Canada may have them by now (although modified for the North American market), and I've heard they will be coming to the USA in the next year or so. If only they were electric rather than gas driven, they'd be a perfect alternative to creating more smog/ozone depleating gasses and might help the global economy get off it's dependance on oil and supporting the petro-chemical kings of the universe.

  11. They're called "rollende BonBons" or rolling bonbons here in Stuttgart.

  12. We have several of them in Montreal. But they are still uncommon enough that people really look at them. They are so cute! Often, there is a bicycle rack at the back and I saw once a bike on one of them and it was almost as big as the car!
