Do you remember
this shot? Well I must have fallen in love with these chairs because when I passed by this café recently, I could not help but to photograph them again! Sometimes the simplest things make the best photos. Have a great week. (And my best wishes to North Americans who lost one hour of sleep yesterday because of the time change!)
Good catch! Where is this? Somewhere in your neighbourhood?
ReplyDeleteoh yes, remember it. Thats a nice way to stuck them, hope they wont be damaged somehow.
ReplyDeleteWhat's better then a photo of one chair?...A photo with a pile of chairs!
ReplyDeleteJust joking around, your right!
Eric, is that in Place des Vosges?
ReplyDeleteThanks Eric...Yawning all day in SanFrancisco but loving your photo..merci!!
ReplyDeleteThey’re also separated by color with purple stack on the right. I like the vaulted stone as well.
ReplyDeleteThey look as if they were stacked by giants.
ReplyDeleteI wish it were in my neighbourhood Nebel, it's one of the nicest area in Paris (It is place des Vosges, you're right Lagatta) But no...
ReplyDeleteDon't worry Midenitebara, I don't think they will be damaged!
Kpgallant. Well it's Sunday, right? So yawning is allowed...
Nuno, so how do you feel 5 days after the start of your Porto Daily Photo?!
Maddox, well it's the stone that surrounds the Place des Vosgesm it's magnificent.
eric, i'm very enthusiastic, you start here special connections from different cultures connected by instant image.

Yes. A round of applause for Henry V, here. The stone would be from one of the Left Bank quarries--the brick is what makes it special in the Place des Vosges. As for the stone, one of the marks of classic French architecture, or building, really, is stereotomy, at which French stonecutters and masons, more than any other bunch in Europe, excelled. It's why even the early 20th century stuff, the Art Nouveau stuff, cut with steam chisels, is so good.
ReplyDeleteGreat resource for an architect to have.

Hopefully the demonstrators won't get the idea to do the same thing with ... parked cars!
ReplyDeleteLovely shot, by the way! But I'm a little bit worried about you, Eric. You go on a date (?) with a friend, and you take a picture of 1) her chair, 2) the table with the empty coffee cups, and 3) now you go back at a later time to take a picture of ... the chairs? Ahem...Are you sure you got your priorities in order? ;-)
Just kidding... We (online) are not complaining, of course! :-D
(Thanks for the best wishes, by the way, we're gonna need to remember that tomorrow morning when the alarm clock rings! )
KP Gallant: I fell the same way. It's the weather that's putting us to sleep, no doubt.
Cool chair composition! I'll be in Paris in August, so I'm really looking forward to discovering all the places in Paris you share with us daily. Merci :)
ReplyDeleteIt was not nice losing an hour of sleep today. I totally forgot about daylight savings. On the other hand, we will now enjoy longer days. Happy spring to all!
Oops. Thanks for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteThank you for thinking of us norte americanos and our daylight savings time change, Eric.
ReplyDeleteSleepy in Seattle. . .

ah...that beautiful chair and so many of them together...nice shot!
ReplyDelete> Brian C.B. : I guess you speak oh Henri IV (grand-father of Louis XIV), for there was no Henri V, King of France. Well to be exact, during the second half of the XIXth century, some royalists used to consider Henri, Comte de Chambord as the King of France and called him Henri V.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the "pedantesque" precision !…
> Tomate Farcie : Lol ! You seem to know so well our friend Eric !!!
I love your site, for both the photos and your thoughts and comments. I am currently in the UK at the end of a working holiday and I'm afraid the student riots have put me off seeing your lovely city. I have been to other areas of france and think it is so lovely.
ReplyDeleteNice chairs - all stacked so neatly! Love how they do that!!
ReplyDeleteoh, the typical sidewalk cafe chairs........how i miss paris.....believe it or not, there are no real authentic french cafes here in Washington DC! There are a bunch of french restaurants etc but none of them are really authentic, they're "americanized..."plus, they never have these chairs.
ReplyDeleteEric, you should move to DC and open up a nice cafe! I'd come!
About the time change, I really felt it the other day...but I love how the sun sets later at night!
Right now is the Cherry Blossom Festival in DC...Eric, you should really come and visit next year during the festival...the pictures that come out of it are amazing!
That's a lot of chairs!!! Nice photo.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the best wishes! I'm draggin' ass today like an old tired dog. There should be a sleeping holiday scheduled the day after a time change!
ReplyDeleteLove the chairs but is there no fear of them toppling?
I too love the chairs! Not only did I loose an hour of sleep, but we lost electricity and heat because of a big storm! Some people I know even lost water, and lots of homes were damaged. One person died when a store roof collapse on him and another died because a tree fell on him. Oy! What a weekend!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great picture. Place des Vosges is a nice area to explore esp the square.
ReplyDeleteQuelle emotion que de regarder tes photos. Un peu de nostalgie, un peu d’espoir, un peu de futur peut-etres et un bien-etre apprecie. Merci !!
ReplyDeleteI just can't imagine the what the poor sole goes through to stay em... And thanks for the simpathy... :)
ReplyDeleteGreat Perspective!!
