Street scene

Today, no famous monument, no clever advertising idea and no demonstration. Just a simple Paris street scene: the lady on her way to grocery shopping with her bright orange shopping cart on wheels, the guy with fancy jeans reading his paper while walking... Sometimes I simply enjoy watching the world go by.

  2. Nice picture. The lady has her grocery list in her hand and I couldn't help noticing the Mona Lisa reproduction for sale across the street.

  3. As its September I should think the lady with the red shopping cart is off to get some mushrooms . Oooooh, what choice you have in Paris!

  4. NICE PANTS on the guys on the left!!! I agree with everybody, watching people in the streets of Paris is totally cool. I love the shot because walking in the streets of Paris used to be my favorite pastime when I lived there. I think all the Parisian kids did the same thing at some point: ride the subway, pick any metro station random, get off, and walk all the way home. Another time, do the same thing with another station. Of course, at the time I grew up in Paris, you could walk pretty much in any neighborhood, day or night, relatively safely. I'm not sure it's still true.

  5. Edulabbe, I love the "I spy with my little eye" game...

I spy... the right part of a bicycle handlebar.
    Has anyone seen it?*

    Eric, is it your bike?

    * Look on the left handside, just beside the COSTUMES sign...

  6. Yes, one of my favorite things to do is to walk the streets in Paris and so, I enjoy this picture!

(Michael, I *will* have pictures of the Mummers' Parade in January.)

  8. And it's still sunny! Today in Nottingham it is dull and wet. Hello winter.

  9. Nice shot Eric ! And much more inspiring to me than yesterday's. Funny though how it seemed so parisian to our fellow bloggers whereas to me it seemed like we could be anywhere. Has it something to do with a matter of "point de vue" ? Anyway, have you ever had the opportunity to discover, in one of those metro station being renovated, old ads from the 60s - 70s revealed by the later decoration removed ? It's always a big bowl of nostalgia to me.
(so that was for non inspiring picture of yesterday !!!!)

Back to today's, it seems like it's been taken in your neighborhood but I can't find the exact place/angle. Anyway I really love the morning (?) atmosphere of it. Makes you feel like you want to say "Bonne journée !" and smile to the people you cross.

  10. Fantastic! Me too, eric. I often miss the days before I was the mother of a young child and before I had a day job, the days when I could just hang out at the coffee house with my friends and my husband and just watch the people. When Owen is older and I can afford to sleep in later I'm so going to go back to that.

I hope everyone has a good day today, I know I'm gonna have one!

  13. The other thing that is so incredibly "European" about this photo to me is the proximity of the parked cars to each other!

  14. Fantastic shot, Eric. I think that the stripes tend to enhance the shopping cart lady's "natural curves," don't you?

I am also jealous of the weather. It's been raining non-stop here for about a week. And it's kind of cool too.

  16. Vita quotidiana a Parigi.
Lei è molto interessante nella gestualità e nel vestito . Un piccolo giacchetto bianco su un vestito a strisce e un forte arancio di contrasto . Interessante. Grande Eric . JOE

  17. Is that costume shop on rue Reamur? Yeah, imagine any of the cafes, and this could be in front of you. Perfect little vignette.

  18. Eric, I thought of you this morning when I was in my boss's office. It had just finished raining and there were big droplets of water clinging to the telephone lines outside the window. The sun was shining in and I thought of how you would take such an ordinary shot and make it something special. Have a great day!

  19. Gee, not fair in the south of France it is pouring rain!! It seems Paris has our sunshine on this day!!

  20. I suppose I'd be weird to say "I just like the orange bag", but there, I said it anyway!

Ujima - I can't wait. Do let us know when you post the Mummers pic. I'm sure many will be surprised to discover this Philadelphia phenomena.

GG - Your English is excellent and we never speak it together. Next time I'm going to force you!

  21. Michael, what would be weird about that? So you like it! Who cares? You can like it all you want. Nobody thinks anything less of you for it, I promise!

  22. I do. I think it makes him really odd. Think of it, an orange bag nontheless. Humph. What's next?

  23. Sorry it's too late, I don't have the strengh to answer to your questions right now. I will do so tomorrow if I have enough time - work is tough at the moment...

  25. i know i'm too late to post, but i just wanted to say that i LOVE street photos like this....

people watching is definitely one of my favorite things to do in any city.

in Washington DC there is a really cute/hip cafe with free wireless called Tryst. i always go there to do homework but...instead...i end up watching everyone else in there :-)

(..i wish i was in paris....4 more months!)

  26. I love this one ;o)

    May I have a guess?
the sign advertising 'Location costumes' makes me think this could be rue du faubourg Montmartre, close to the shop delightfully named 'Au fou rire'

  27. Okay, Eric, if you see that woman again, please ask her who cuts her hair, because I want that cut!!! Also, being a seamtress of sorts, the unmatched bias stripes of her dress really bug me. . .but for photo visual interest, they are fantastically eye-catching. One's eye goes there, dispite the fact there is a bright orange cart right next to her. Love the bolero jacket over the summer dress! REALLY love her hair cut. okay, I'll stop now. Great, great shot!
