A little help from my friends (you!)

OK today it's the revolution on PDP... There is no new photo and I ask you to work! Explanations: thanks to your massive support in the Festival de Romans I am fortunate enough to remain among the 10 finalists. As a result I must provide the organizers with a couple of my favorite photos by January 24. And, well, after browsing all day, I have been unable to narrow down my selection. So I kindly ask you to help me. Don't think twice, just rank the photos you like according to your first impression, it should not take you more that 2 minutes. Ready? Here is the link to the survey. Thanks a million.

  1. Hi Eric, I'm just fascinated about your work.. well, the survey it's done! Hope it helps!
    Au-bientot!

  2. It will surely help Dsole. Thank you...

  3. Done, it was interesting., I just went one pass, so may be more than 5 "top 5" or may be less....
    Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  4. I went over them but just evaluated it two of them (not that I did not like the rest). Good luck.

  5. Good luck! My faves are the Eiffel Tower in the Mist and First Snow! I see that so far, most like the tower shot too...but not as many votes as I would think for the first snow (my favorite of all your pictures). I think that the reason it fascinates me so much is that it looks as if it is a photo taken in the 1800's. It looks like a man wearing an old fashioned hat, walking in a snow shower.

  6. i feel bad, i think i picked the most touristy ones (the Eiffel tower, etc) but they were really quite good.
    Cheers.

  7. eric, you're amazing..this is soooo exciting for you !!!

    SURVEY COMPLETED

may the FORCE be with you ... :)

  8. Homework done, survey complete! Bonne chance Eric!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Looks like 'Eiffel Tower in the Mist' will be the shot of the century.
    Bon chance Monsieur.
But I did like Paris Plage!

    ReplyDelete
  10. me too, homework done and I'm so glad the "two coffees" photo ranks first (at this moment) :-)

good luck Eric...and counting down to 2nd anniversary of PDP!!!

    ReplyDelete
  11. I think I rated 6 Top 5 photos. Opps!! Guess I went overboard!! There were too many good ones to choose from.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Bonne chance, Eric.

But where is the golden escargot?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Great idea Eric! Letting your readers select which photos to send to the organizers. Now that's what PDP is all about for me...a virtual community sharing something they have in common.

Now - how will you explain to the people there that concept when I am supposing they are only going to look at the photos?

Anyway, I voted, but won't reveal for which ones, so as not to influence other voters. And by the way, it took me UNDER 2 MINUTES to do so!

    ReplyDelete
  14. You're so awesome, Eric. I'm so glad you're in the top 10. You're totally gonna win!

You should do more surveys like this. It was fun, and I got to see photos I haven't seen in awhile!

And since for me it's still the 21st, Happy Birthday one last time this year! So I guess that makes you 37?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Finshed the survey. Enjoyed seeing some of the pictures again. Good luck, Eric!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Me too. Good luck! :-)

It feels kind of strange to look at this medley of pictures. Some of them bring back good memories. A couple of them were on my laptop/desktop for a while. I had the 2 cups of coffee for the longest time, including during my last trip to Paris. Now I have a certain yellow 2CV ;)

    ReplyDelete
  17. whew! it was not easy. there are too many beautiful ones. paris plague [or "the toe" as i named it:)] is my favourite and "first snow" is next. but i ranked them all. good luck eric!

    ReplyDelete
  18. How are you, Eric? Long time no 'see' :) and what a pleasant surprise to found that you're in a festival!! I've done the survey as well. As the Indonesians would say: Semoga berhasil! which means Good Luck!

    ReplyDelete

    Good luck!

  24. Hello !

Congratulations Eric, I hope you'll make it to the final.
Just out of curiosity, there's a question in my mind that keeps coming back ; I'm a regular viewer of your shots, and I'm wondering how you can manage taking so much beautiful pictures and taking part in so many cultural events... What do you make for a living ? Are you a professional photographer ?

    Survey done...
    Best of luck !

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  27. me again; lol. Meant to ask how you make this sort of collage, Eric. I need to make one for a project and no idea how to do it.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  29. I just did the survey Erice. I wish you all the best of luck!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I love them all. I did hope you would include "Alexandre III Bridge (2)" but didn't see it?

    Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well, I voted for you and I have completed your survey. I really hope you do well. This is the first time I have made a comment, but I have been watching PDP avidly now for a long time.

    Best of luck

    ReplyDelete
  32. reviewing some of your photos again was a pleasure..Good luck to you!

    ReplyDelete

    Enfin, moi, j'dis ça, j'dis rien !!!

    ;o)

    ReplyDelete
  34. lynn, you can do it with a photo editing software, like Photo Shop or Pain Shop Pro or something like that. It's pretty easy. How many pictures do you need put into a collage and how big would it need to be. I might possibly be able to do it for you.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Félicitations Eric! Merci pour vos photos! Bonne chance!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Premiere: bonne anniversaire (even if a little late).

Deuxieme: congratulations and bonne chance with Festival de Romans.

Troisieme: The double Tour Eiffel of Jan 20 is a great shot to represent PDP. The historic Tower, of course, which all recognize, and the modern perspective of the television view. The tv view is clearer than the real view in the photo. The metaphor is perfect. But, of course, a cliche (!)

Anyway, I took your survey. Your photos are great. Does the jury need to be able to identify photos with the city of orgin? Something to consider, peut etre.

Quattrieme: I'm getting closer to solidifying vacation plans. Florence, Cannes, Paris. Probably late April. Who's up for a party? Eric, Michael, GG, Laura, Michel...I am forgetting people. I'd love to meet anyone else.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hello Eric,

I did my part in helping you out. I really enjoy your photos.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I still love Eiffel Tower in the Mist. Two Coffees Please is a close second.

    Good luck, Eric!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Jeff : when would it be ? of course, if you need somebody nasty for the party, you can count on me !

    ReplyDelete
  40. Ah thanks Soosha, but i need to be able to do it myself, i could use it quite often you see. I do have photoshop though so if you point me in the right direction - where to start - i'll experiment? thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Eric, I love surveys. Thanks for letting us participate. I love your photos. Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hey heres the pic with "On s'aime" ritten on a green thing (to avoid cars to park in sidewalk) !

    That's my favorite PDP pic

    =/

    ReplyDelete
  43. I was going to say j'a fait mes devoirs, moi aussi, but it was more pleasure than work to take this walk down memory lane.
I'm with Susan in Atlanta - Misty Eiffel and the First Snow are my faves(although I miss the Pont Alexander pic).
    Bon courage et bonne chance!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Sorry lynn, I don't have Photoshop, I've got PaintShop Pro. Never worked with PS, so I'm not sure how you'd do it. Perhaps someone else here has it and can help!

    ReplyDelete
  45. it was really hard to choose but I did it.

    ReplyDelete
Bonne continuation.

    ReplyDelete
  47. That was a lovely trip down "memory lane", so many beautiful photos, many have been wallpaper on my computers at home and at work!

I find it amusing that photos of la Tour Eiffel always get the highest votes, though I admit that Eiffel Tower in the Mist is magnificent!!

I must say that Alesia Metro, Eiffel Tower in the Mist, Wandering outside Le Louvre, Ladder to heaven?, Street Party, Demonstration, part II, Crossed lines, Sacre Coeur, again!, The Brasserie reflexion[a personal favorite] and 2 cafés s'il vous plaît (Two coffees please), along with First Snow! are all works of art and if you want to turn them into cards or prints I could sell them in San Francisco like "hotcakes"!! My fee would be fair and small...LOL ;-)

I also love Break dancing in Les Halles...Oh my, I can't stop!! It seems your artistic muse likes to sit on your shoulder when it is snowing...are you expecting snow in Paris any time soon??

Bon Chance Eric!! You are already a WINNER in all of our books I'm sure! A big Merci for making PDP one of the first things I look forward to each day!! Salut!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Ok, done Eric. I am really disappointed though...and I'm sure Dr. A agrees with me...

    Where's the homeless man?

    ReplyDelete
  49. What a fun way to spend my lunch hour - perusing all the fab photos of the past from my favorite city in the world, as well as from my favorite photographer :-). My favorite is the Tour Eiffel in the mist - absolutely gorgeous!! Good luck, Eric!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Yes Jeff, let's try and get together with everyone again. Should be fun.

Tomate...you coming over to Paris for a picnic?

    ReplyDelete
  51. I came back to view the poll results so far.....the same frontrunner! Seems everyone loves your Eiffel picture!

Also, I am wondering what your international vistors think of Hillary Clinton running for President? I am not convinced that she could ever win in a national election as she seems to be the most polarized political person I know (just about every man I know HATES her...and I don't mean that they don't like her....they HATE her). Almost an irrational hatred. I am ambivalent about her (no love or hate). Just curious what the world thinks.

Some American opinions here in this article's comment section at the bottom.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Michael,
I also, thought the Homeless Man was most thought-provoking, but perhaps a bit too controversial.
    Nevertheless a great shot.
Good to see you back again Monsieur.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Just contributed, Eric. All your shots are brilliant... and you should get extra marks for your informative & often amusing commentaries on the photographs... and also additional marks for always being so courteous & helpful to your guests!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Hi everyone,

Clearly I won't have enough time to answer everyone tonight... Thank you very much for your votes and good luck wishes, it's a great help. And to be honest it's not 5 photos that I must send but only... two. But I wanted to have the choice when I make the final decision.

Metaphysical mama. Well, you're right, I don't think the jury will take the community part into account. They are probably only interested in the photos.

Soosha, funny that you ask for more surveys, I was actually worried that this one would take too much time to fill in! (And BTW, Yes 37 ;) !

    Tomate. Ahh la deudeuche jaume!!

Santy! What a pleasure to "see" you here! Thank you for wishing me Semoga berhasil, that is really nice. I wish so much I could visit you all one day...

Terra.

Adis. Good question. I too wonder how I can spend so much time on something that does not make me earn any single penny, LOL! FYI, I am not a professionnal photographer, I am a journalist (I write) but in a totally different field. The reason why I get to go to more and more cultural events is that now PR people have realized how bloggers can promote the events they organize...

Lynn. "Le sondage est complet" would sound more French but yes it's correct. For the collage I used Picasa (a great software BTW, you can download it for free on the Web). It's as easy as 123.

Anonymous. ALexandre III is one that I had first selected then removed to narrow down my selection to 50.

GG. You would not be referring to a photo YOU took by any chance???

Jeff. Bravo. No problem for the party, I'll be there of course. And I'm sure my friend Laura will too. I can ask the others to join of course. Let me know.

FoxPT. Funny you mentioned this one. I hesitated because of a scooter in the background which was not very nice and then I did not include it in the selection...

KPgallant. You really cracked me up. Your top 5 sounds like a top 10 to me LOL.

Michael. LOL! Naughty Michael, you want to start the war again?!

Susan. Well, will see what they say. I haven't had the time to follow this closely I must say

    M. Benaut. I'm sure Michael wanted to kid (you did Michael, didn't you???)

    Jasper. Well thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Thanks Eric, i'll download it! and thanks for the french tip.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I voted, too. Of course the photo of ME wasn't an option...!

    ReplyDelete
  57. LOL Buzzgirl. Oooops Major Faux pas...

    ReplyDelete
  58. Best wishes to you Eric from Minneapolis. Looks like there's a runaway favorite, and it's absolutely positively a favorite of mine: Eiffel Tower in the Mist. Would have been my ParisDP Photo of 2006 ! :)
    Best of luck!

    ReplyDelete
  59. LOL... actually I had the same thought about the homeless man's picture missing from the selection.

Michael, Jeff: I'm definitely game for another picnic, of course, and I was, too, shooting for late Spring but nothing definite on my end yet. However, I have a request. I think this time, we should picnic on the side of the the 5th Arrt. rather than the other side ;)

    ReplyDelete
  60. I forgot. I liked the picture of Buzzgirl! I thought she looked great!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Yes, was kind of kidding about the homeless man's photo, but agree, it was one of the most thought provoking.

I forgot about Buzzgirl's photo...can we vote again?

Tomate, I'm ok with the 5th, but do you think it's safe?

    ReplyDelete
  62. I'm so jealous of all this talk of a Paris picnic that I can't attend!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Hi Eric, I have become addicted to your blog and go there now daily. Sometimes your pictures inspire me to go to some places and take a picture myself from the same perspective, I did it for example with Notre Dame and the Xmas tree in front. That was beautiful. The best picture for me is the Eiffel Tower in the mist. Not touristy at all. Just incredibly beautiful. Keep going ! Good luck.

    Ulla,
    new to Paris, blogging myself

    http://moveablefeast.typepad.com

    ReplyDelete
  64. Michael : "...but do you think it's safe? " Actually, yeah, I do. :)

Soosha's got a good point, though. What if we tried to do it in Central Park (Manhattan) instead? Plenty of room for the DP community there. :)

    ReplyDelete
  65. LOL Tomate...now that's one place that isn't safe.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Aww t! That's a very sweet thought, trying to put together things outside of Paris for PDPers. Only place I'd ever be able to attend is St. Louis, though, as I'm poor. That's ok, though. Someday!

    ReplyDelete
  67. It's a shame you didn't put that "On s'aime" photo in the listings, but yes I do understant that in terms of photography it's not an example of your work.

It is however the one witch fully represents the way that I see Paris :)

    ReplyDelete
