Merry-go-round
Thursday, June 28, 2007 Posted by Eric
"Mon manege a moi c'est toi" (you are my merry-go-round) is a famous line from a song by Edith Piaf and I could not help thinking of it when I took this photo on Montmartre, near the Basilic du Sacre Coeur. When I look at this, with the typical Paris building in the background, I start missing my favorite town now, even though I'm told the weather is terribly cold down there at the moment...

Tu me fais tourner la tête
Mon manège à moi, c'est toi
Je suis toujours à la fête
Quand tu me tiens dans tes bras
Je ferais le tour du monde
Ça ne tournerait pas plus que ça
La terre n'est pas assez ronde
Pour m'étourdir autant que toi...
Ah!
Car...
Tu me fais tourner la tête
Mon manège à moi, c'est toi
Je suis toujours à la fête
Quand tu me tiens dans tes bras
Je ferais le tour du monde
Ça ne tournerait pas plus que ça
La terre n'est pas assez ronde...
Mon manège à moi, c'est toi!
------------
Tu as fait le tour du monde,
il est temps de rentrer chez toi!
Round and round the world you went
it's time to go home

Okay, no quiz...but I think that's Napoleon's horse. ;-)

Like both foreground and background. If I were you, I'd miss Paris, too!

That's right... don't come back before tuesday if you don't want to be frozen ;-)))

What fun!

It's been over a year since I lived in Paris, and sometimes it seems silly that simple things like this horse make me miss it...

Can you read my mind, Eric? I just saw the film 'La Mome' ('La Vie en Rose' in America) last night, and here you are with a reference to Edith Piaf. It's not the first time we have been in sync!
Wonderful photo! Those Parisian rooftops get me every time.

Mon manège à moi is my favorite Edith Piaf song. The lyrics were penned by Jean Constantin, whom I adored. He was not only very funny, but a great piano player too.
Sorry I missed you in Paris, Eric. Things had been so hectic while I was in northern France that I took a break from socializing... Hope to see you next time I am in the French capital!

when I look at this nice picture I can´t help feeling sorry for the horse... with that thing sticking into his belly...

Great photo - I love the buildings in the background. I always wonder who lives in them and what they do for a living to live in such a beautiful place!

I love this horse on top of the carousel. In its simplicity, devoid of carvings and fanciful decor, it seems more elegant to me.
The "Butte" calls your name, Eric. After all, there is no place like home!
And you are welcome reference the 52 columns. :)

There are quite a lot of these old 'merry-go-rounds' or carousels as they are more romantically called around Paris, and they do make marvellous photos.
Have you seen the one opposite the Eiffel Tower by Trocadero - a friend of mine took a great pic of the horse's hooves trampling our favourite tour, from afar of course.

I like the version "Mon manege a moi"
with french singer Etienne Daho.
Lynn if you'd like to have a french guy whispering nice words to you, you should hear him! ;-)

Note to Monica and Kristi: this is not a real horse, it's a mockup LOL. If it were it would be in a horse meat butcher shop, believe me!!!
(Yes people, French - well, some - people eat horse meat! I'll show you a horse meat butcher once...)
Thanks Nathalie for the complete lyrics of this fabulous song. And, Monica, I could not agree more with you; I love edith Piaf, but Etienne Daho did a very good job singing it.
