The Paris Metro Web!

107 years after its official inauguration (1900 on the occasion of the Exposition Universelle) the Paris Metro never stops growing... I just discovered today that they are about to open a new metro station in the 13th arrondissement on Line 14 (the latest one, also the only one to be fully automated). This new station is called Olympiades and it will certainly improve the daily life of the large population that lives in this area (wich includes part of the Chinese quarter). More - in French - here.

  3. Oh Thank you Eric :o) I know now that I should bring with me such a mirror? or glass? for my next visit to Paris as the last 3times was hard to read the Metro map :o)

  4. I am happy that new stations are being built but I wish they would renovate the older ones, too. I have an awful problem with the stairs. Some have escalators and/or elevators but not enough. I can make it doing six steps at a time but what about those poor folks who can hardly walk or are in a wheelchair. We have official groups here that insist on help for the handicapped. Do the groups exist in Paris?

  5. I see Glaciere stop at the mirror!
I guess this is not your scooter since you said you don´t have one anymore. But you took great advantage of somebody else´s scooter. Great shot!

  6. But Eric, the Olympics are to be in London in 2012 - did nobody tell you?

  7. JohnnyParsons > Well the new ones are adapted for handicapped people. But it's true that public transports aren't made for handicapped, old or fat persons (a lot of people!)

  8. I'm sure the people living in the area will be delighted!

I can't get over how much the metro has expanded since I left Paris. Unbelievable!!

Very creative shot of a Parisian metro map, by the way. :)

  9. Johnny Parsons: people who can't get around usually end up taking the bus system instead. Taking the metro in Paris is a sport, really, with all the stairs and extremely long hallways, among other things.

  10. Yes Yenna, you're right, unfortunately the Metro is almost impossible to ride for handicapped people. It's improving though.

@ Ham: No! We still believe it takes place in Paris! LOL.

  11. You have such a great eye, Eric - I wonder if you happened upon this scooter parked here, or if you had to move it around a bit. Loved looking at all the pix from yesterday, thanx to you & Ame.

  12. The Paris Metro is well taken care of compared to some (I won't mention) here in the States. A new station for a growing population...sounds like a winner. Love the mirrored shot. Artistic. Hey, have you been in San Francisco? :-)

  13. Pont Girl, no I did not move it ;) it was there. I just had to look for the best angle that's all.

And no, it's not my scooter by the way, mine's broken ;(

Coltrane. I did take Bart in San Francisco. The seats are comfortable ; it's more a train than a metro to me.

One thing, I don't understand why there is no global ticketing system allowing to take all public transports.

  14. BART is a train. The Muni underground is much more similar to the metro (complete with people jam-packed, sudden stops, smells), but compared to Paris it's just a very small sample. And then again, compared to Paris, I suppose the city of SF itself is really, really small. Next time you come to Bay Area, we'll have to give you a "proper" tour of our beloved City by the Bay :-D

  15. Nice shot Eric. Yeah, I'm going to head over there to see if there's anything worth recording. It's a weird line to ride on coz you can look out of the front and see the tunnel zooming towards you so to speak, with no driver!
