Welcome to Hotel California

We're so lucky here. Not only do we have THE real Paris Hilton (have you seen that by the way?) but we also have a hotel California! It's not on a dark desert highway, but right in the middle of the 8th arrondissement (16 rue de Berri) but don't ask me if it's heaven or hell nor of they serve pink Champagne on ice, I don't know! The reason why I'm showing you this hotel today is that in in 3 days I'm on my way to... California (Silicon Valley, more precisely). If you're in the area and want to participate in a little PDP gathering on Sunday 24, well let me know in the forum right here. Hope to see you soon.

  1. I have friends from California who have stayed there and were satisfied. I didn't visit them while they were located in the hotel so I cannot vouch for the interior and service, but I'll accept their comments. Have a great time in CA, but behave yourself!!

  2. How appropriate Eric, I hope you enjoy your trip to California!

Here's a clip of the song Hotel California to get you even more in the mood!

PS: Wasn't it the american Musée Grevin that has just inaugurated a wax statue of Paris Hilton in a jail uniforme?! Talk about good timing! :-)

  3. Eric, that photo brings back such good memories. The Hotel California was where we stayed on our first trip to Paris, about 7 or 8 years ago. There was some event going on in the lobby when we arrived - band playing, can-can girls dancing, people everywhere. It was all so exciting! The hotel was lovely, rooms were beautiful, staff was kind and gracious and all sorts of modern paintings adorned the walls of the corridors. And it is so close to the hustle and bustle of the Champs Elysees...
best wishes for a wonderful vacation in California, USA!

  5. Did you know there's another Hotel California (two-star) in the 5th off Rue des Ecoles?

I've never stayed there, but I walk by it often.

  7. Tonight I took a long walk around my local neighbourhood after buying a bottle of wine, which I am now drinking.

There are million dollar apartments where I live. There are also derelict Victorian town houses, crammed with dirt poor students who tie their bikes to the wrought iron railings and occasionally leave their crumbling, unwanted furniture on the footpath in untidy piles for being lower down on the food chain to scavenge. There are women on their mobile phones bitching to their girlfriends (or perhaps their boyfriends) about their loser husbands. There are young men wandering the streets, muttering to themselves, while taking long drags from plastic bags filled with petrol. There are people carefully parking their late model Mercedes Benzes.

And then there is me - with my cheap bottle of wine, broken hearted after yet another tragic break-up, wishing I could meet a beautiful, intelligent, available Parisian gal...Ah, one can always dream! Especially when one recalls the melancholy hours spent listening to one's first LP purchase - in my case, "Hotel California" by The Eagles.

Hope all my PDP pals are in fine health. I've missed you all and will be back again (with a less morbid post) when the workload eases up.

  9. I recall investigating this hotel via internet, and yes I seem to recall there's another one in the Lating Quarter.

    M. London, I love your musings. Quite literary. Just remember, many of those belles madamoiselles have a lot pretty pretty boys they call friends.

  13. 1) the Paris Hilton interview was really funny

    2) let me envy you (no, non in a good way, but the really worst one: that one usually parents teach to avoid) about your trip in California

    3) I know Cavalieri Hilton (in Rome), does it count?

  14. Well...kummm to the Hotel Caliifornia....such a luvly place...la la la la lahhhh!!!

    I love this one..bien sur!! ;-)

I have an aerial shot of this hotel and the street as my computer wallpaper at home...can't remember where I found it, but at work I have...can you guess???....Louvre-Rivoli!! Gawd...I luvvvv that one!!

If the state of CA put a webcam in Paris Hilton's cell and charged $50.00 for 20 minutes of viewing on paypal...we could build new schools for all the children in CA!!!

  16. I saw this hotel last October when I was in Paris it reminded me that I stay in another 'Hotel California' in the 80's that was on Rue d'Ecole. Plastic palms trees in the lobby, a flamingo or two, all I could think of 'so this is what Parisians think of California'! Have fun on your trip to N.CA coming up! It has been a real scorcher!!!!
