Magic Blackberry!

I attended the launch of a new Blackberry by a French mobile carrier yesterday evening near le Grand Palais. After the traditional introduction speech, to entertain the audience, they invited a magician on stage who started playing with the new phone and perform a few tricks with it. It was quite impressive, I must say. He ended his number with this confetti scene, which, I was sure would make a good photo ;) A nice change from the demonstration photos!

  1. I use a Palm PDA. I was wondering if PDAs, Palms or Blackberrys or others are popular with the French. Here (USA) it seems only geeks (like me) or business people (like me) really make use of them.

  2. Well, yes a lot of people use PDA's. I did for a while but I thought it was to large to slip into a jean's pocket so I went back to a smaller model.

What is new now is that they are trying to sell the Blackberry to the general public and no only to professional users.
Now everyone wants to read their email and surf the web while on the road.

  3. It did make a good photo, Eric! I hope you sent the magician a copy.

  4. And, to be consistent, you should send the magician a copy on his Blackberry!

Maybe he can perform a trick and resolve the labor strike issues...? That would be magic, I think.

  6. Wow! You were right. This does make a very nice photo. Great job Eric!

Blackberrys are very popular and trendy here in Jamaica. Seems like everyone but me has one! lol :)

And for the record, I kind of like seeing the "strike" photos!

  7. Actually, I'm not sure where wm. little lives, but many, many people in the U.S. are getting blackberries.

I have one from my company that is connected to my company's network(it can do practically anything) but I see lots of non-business people getting smaller versions.

It's kind of cool on one hand but on the other, people can find you anywhere! That's not so good!

    You go everywhere Eric!

  8. The magician looks like a clown...LOVE IT!
You're right Eric, the strike is getting boring here (not on your blog, here in Paris!):)

  9. Eric, This is a magical photo!
Here in Seattle the iPhone is the hot in hand choice. There were a lot of early adopters here who were miffed at the significant drop in price shortly after the product launched.

Unrelated, but when I saw this photo from San Francisco today, I thought of you:

  12. Very nice photo.

I still fail to see the need to be able to contact people 24/7. It makes me wonder how society managed to cope for eons without mobile communication devices!

  13. Cool shot! J'adore! You captured the action, the energy, and the magician's pose and expression superbly! Hmmm, I think you and your camera are the magic act here. This guy may want to use this photo for his portfolio. ;)

  15. Great image, and it's impressive to have such much put into pushing the Almighty Blackberry.

I still only use a cell phone, no PDA, no Blackberry. Work has even offered one to me, but I get a bit scared about what might happen to my life ... considering that it seems people with Blackberries are too busy looking at email, etc. to actually have a conversation with me. :)

Now, the iPhone ... maybe. :)

  16. On the issue of 24/7 electronic availability: This past summer I met some people at on outdoor patio at a bistro. One woman made a twenty-minute conversation about how she had sent a text message to her former lover, and oh, look what he sent back, and then look what I sent, then he said, then I said, oh and look he just sent this, and I'm going to send...

Mon Dieu, what a bore! Instead of the electronic communication contributing to the evening, it actually BECAME the evening! Human interaction was overcome by a little lit screen. Aieeee! Just shoot me! Or at least give me un verre de vin.

  17. Hello from Richmond, VA where the leaves are beautiful, people in the office are getting ready for Thanksgiving, and I'm praying I can get back to Paris with the ongoing strikes. A wonderful photo Eric and very magical as well. Am catching up on your photos and see I missed a lot. Please ask this magician to stop the strikes before I have to land on Thursday morning!

  18. I didn't know you were on our side of the bathtub, Michael. A belated bienvenue, mon ami. If you can't leave, at least there will be lots of food on Thursday!

  19. Yes Jeff, I regret to not have remembered Thanksgiving at the time I was making my business plans. Nothing like some good ole mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce to go with that butterball!

  21. Nicely done, catching the action like that. Must have been quite a show. And all for a PDA (also known as the digital leash, I think?). We are some species, eh? Well snapped.
    Thanks,
    Wayne

  22. The Blackberry is made by RIM (Research in Motion) right here in beautiful Waterloo, Ontario.

Thought you might be interested to know that.

    Passez une bonne journée!
