Gare d'Orsay at night

I know you think I photoshopped this photo but I did not! I took it last night on my way back from work while the sky was very cloudy. Those who've been to Paris will recognise the Orsay Museum, a museum that was made from a former train station (gare d'Orsay) and which is a real wonder inside and out. The white light in the background belongs to the Eiffel Tower.

  7. Wait a minute... don't you mean "a former station that was made into a museum" or do I have it backwards?

  9. Beautiful photo Eric and the spotlight shining on the clouds adds an extra oomph. The clouds look wonderful too. The Gare or musee is beautiful and the reflections on the water just lovely. That's a lot of superlatives but this photo earned them. Bravo!

  15. Eric what a shot! Another stunning photo. I also liked your 12/26/07 Empty Paris photo. You should make some really large prints and matte and frame them and shop them around to galleries for exhibition and sales if you aren't doing that already! I spent a Christmas and some winter days in Paris and those photos sure capture the feeling. A Happy New Year belatedly!

  18. New desktop photo for me, too. Eric, this is spectacular.

On a warm day in May, 2006, my husband and I stood next to one of those statues on the terrace outside the musee cafe, gazing across the city to Sacre Coeur. It's one of my fondest memories of Paris. But I've got a million of 'em and I intend to make a million more!

  25. Eric, this shot is gorgeous! Thank you for bringing back memories of a high school french class trip to Paris almost 40 years ago. We stayed at the hotel here at the station, way before the museum. Oh did we have fun! It was beautiful then and, as you've shown us, beautiful today.

A force d'y vivre, c'est dur de voir encore ce genre de chose et de s'en émerveiller. Je devrai réapprendre à ouvrir les yeux...
    What a pity. For me.

  46. Bonjour:

In November of 2002 my wife and I experienced this same exact image as we crossed a bridge. The beacon of the tower was doing the same thing to clouds. It was a breath taking moment. Reliving it in this photo is fabulous. Thanks Eric.

I too have it on my desk top.
