Hey you!

As Christmas is approaching you find many surprising characters near the main shopping areas, or, like here, in shopping malls. This character was not very friendly to me actually (he would not help me take a picture of him!) but I finally managed ;) I don't know if this character exists in real life - I mean in a cartoon or comic strip - but I'm sure it will put a smile to your face for at least 10 minutes ;) PDP is also about putting a smile on faces from time to time ;)

  1. I'm smiling. The creature seems to be sporting an extra pair of legs. Paris shopping malls sure look nicer than the ones in SF.

  2. This photo cracks me up!! Also your comment about whether he exists "in real life" - meaning a cartoon strip! Too bad he was a meany. Its interesting to see a mall, too - not someplace I think of going on a vacation, but a part of real French life just like the building in Aubervilliers, etc. I'd like to see how they are the same or different than ours.

    Congrats on GF rimabirdgirl!

  3. Ah, but to refer to le Passage des Princes as a 'shopping mall' really is a travesty. Each passage is a little Paris all its own.

  4. I'm glad you have people standing near... whatever it is, because I never would have thought it was so big! I remember going to Disneyland in Anaheim decades ago, and getting razzed by Tigger. I guess he had a character to play, but it seemed to go too far. Da*ned cartoons.

  5. I'm certainly smiling, Eric.
And I think Jeff is right -- a Parisian passage a "shopping mall"? -- je ne crois pas!

  6. I think it's Mr. Planters Peanuts,
    no?

  7. I don't know what it is, but it is bright! (Maybe the "Merry and Bright" from the famous White Christmas carol?) Who knows. I know I might be tired after being in a costume such as this for several hours, but I do wish he would have been more friendly towards you, Eric!

  8. PDP is ALL about putting a smile on our faces everyday!!!!!!!

Love the pink face, don't know who this character is but he did make me smile!

  9. He--It--doesn't look happy to see you at all, Eric. It should be glad it's working in a pretty passage, and not a shopping mall. Of course there's a person in there. I wonder how easy it is to wear that costume and move about?

  10. Eric, I must ask what in Sam Hill am I looking at? A pink chicken in a tuxedo with spats? Colorful no doubt. He looks like a cartoon character in search of an identity. I hope he finds it soon before a reporter throws a size 10 at his head.

  12. Thanks, Coltrane. It was taken during last year's clementine harvest. This year we may not have as many, due to the drought. But it's raining tonight!

  13. I thought it looked like a passage rather than a mall.
A Parisien frind of mine organised a walk based around the wonderful passages when I visited.
A great thing to do on a rainy day and each one unique.
The character by the way looks like a mutant Liquorice Allsort.

  15. I agree with Nasty GG. I have now made a conscious decision in fact, some months ago, that if anyone is unhelpful for my shots, I don't take them. Even if they relent and find they want them after all. I insist that it's fine and I can find someone else thank you. Life is too short to be persuading someone to let me take a nice photo of them. So, I'm afraid, his costume doesn't fool me this time; I'm not amused.

    Nice photo Petrea...

  17. Eric, talking of shopping - Five explosive packages have been diffused at a Paris department store today? Know anything more on that news story?

  18. At Printemps apparently, believed to have been planted by the Afghan Revolutionary Front? Thank goodness all safe now though.

  19. Don't know what to think about this odd character, Eric ?
Nasty GG is right. Nothing good if it wasn't nice to you! Nothing good! Let it go far away from you :)PDP is here to put a smile on faces.

  20. Have some pity on the poor sod. Who would be happy having to go about in that ridiculous outfit? 'It' probably needs the money for Christmas presents! Eric, are you sure you took the photo? You don't have to pretend to us - times are hard - it's you in there isn't it?

  21. lol Drummond..it could be Eric. I recognise the stance.
Still, I know some jobs are hard, but, by definition he's supposed to be jolly!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Lynn, I suppose your supposed to be jolly, but it's a bit like wearing a gorilla suit to a fancy dress party - it seems like a good idea at the time.

PS -I think the eyes gave him away (compare)

  23. Lynn you're right. In Le Printemps. Just a threat apparently - there was no trigger.

  24. Woooow, explosive packages in Le Printemps... just before Christmas, how tragic it could have been... Hope measures will be taken to avoid such a thing...

    ReplyDelete
  25. Thank goodness for that, then, Eric. Let's hope the publicity they obviously seek is enough.

    lol Drummond.

  30. I'm ill, and quite weak, but I managed a smile! Thanks, Eric. This is one goofy-looking character.

  31. Maybe the threat at Printemps was misunderstood by a language mistranslation. I haven't checked the news, but it might have originated in the shoe department. Not bombs, but...projectiles...?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Eeek! It was no joke. Dymanmite at Printemps! What madness. Be careful, mes amis á Paris.

  33. Funny!! Reminds me of the David Sedaris story where he is an Elf working at Macy's during Christmas time. I can't believe he was rude to you, usually the people that don these costumes are quite cooperative and friendly, total Hams!! Maybe he thought you were going to show it to the whole world..which you did! LOL!!

I heard the news of the dynamite this morning on the radio. In true American news style they did not identify the store[Le Printemps]probably thinking that some moron here would get the same idea and run to the nearest department store. What a world!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Maybe the reason this character was uncooperative with the photographer is the angle: are we looking under the dress?

    ReplyDelete
  35. How funny that he was not cooperative. I wonder what character he is also.
