An old Parisian!

You know I generally avoid photographing the face of people and I try to keep this blog Paris centric as much as I can. But for once I'll make an exception, as I'm just back from the 80th birthday party of my father - where I took this photo - and that I can't help making him the "star of the day" on PDP! My father is the kindest man on earth, very giving, I never heard him complain about anything (and though, I swear he's French!) and he's always been extremely committed to his family. Last but not least, he is in a real good shape for his age. Happy birthday dad ;)

  1. This is lovely, Eric -- and very fitting that you should honor your papa in this way! Do I see a family resemblance?

  2. I DO see a resemblance -- your dad is very handsome! Will he like that you made him the "star" of PDP or not? Either way, he willl surely love what you said about him!

  3. Thank you Alexa ;) Resemblance? Well when I was very young people kept telling me I looked like him a lot, but now, I don't think there is much of a physical resemblance.

  20. Joyeux Anniversaire Monsieur Tenin!!

Mon père a 87 ans, mais son attitude n'est pas comme la vôtre [il est aussi français]. Vous semblez tout à fait jeunes, comme votre fils! ;-)

  24. Eric, I was so moved by your tribute to your father and by your wish to include us in this very special celebration for you and for him.

His portrait is beautiful. Your observations of him are beautiful. And, no matter how much or how little you resemble him physically, you resemble him in spirit tremendously.

We each sing our song out into the world. He sings to you and you sing to us, every day.

What a wonderful thing to stand 7000 miles away and to reply, "This is to wish you the happiest of birthdays, Mr. Tenin."

  25. Eric -- I hope you'll show all these wishes to your dad from his son's "other" family.

  30. Eric, your tribute to your father was so moving! For a man to earn and keep the deep admiration, respect and love of his children is a beautiful accomplishment. The attributes you mention about your father are reflected in you and there can be no greater legacy than for a parent to raise children who are good and kind, honest and fair. Bon anniversaire a votre pere!

  31. On this special day may I wish you many happy returns, Mr. Tenin. It is very nice to see this portrait of you and to hear Eric's description of his dear father. Of course we could have guessed these many fine things about you from our acquaintance with your son, who is himself a generous and kind person. Continued health and happiness to you!

I remember happily my mother's 80th birthday, as we surprised her by having many members of the family fly to Portland for a dinner. I took one good photo of her that night, but nothing as wonderful as this 80th birthday portrait of your handsome father.
