PDP Picnic day!

That's it! D-Day... It happens only once a year and... it's today (Wednesday May the 13th) . But pay attention, there is a change in the location. The weather is not good enough to take the chance to do it on the banks. Therefore, here is a nice surprise to all of you who have been following PDP and the little "family" that revolves around it. The 2009 PDP picnic will be taking place where Guillemette (better known as "Guille", here) works, that is at "The Cork and Cavan" on 70 quai de Jemmapes (10th arrondissement), by the Canal where I took this photo (see map here) - still @ 7 pm. Métro République or Jacques Bonsergent. Bring food but don't bring drinks, as they have to be ordered on the spot. See you tonight. See also Facebook.

  2. I am officiallu really really envious. Sorry for the rainy weather, but so glad you're able to have it "chez Guille."

    ReplyDelete
  3. I'm heartbroken that I'll not be able to attend (or to visit friends in Manchester as planned.) But my watch-mom-while-you travel network has temporarily collapsed. Hope there'll be lots of pictures. Have fun, people!!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Well, if I can't be there at least I'm GF. Is this a consolation prize, peut-etre?
. . . and make that "officially." Can't wait to hear all about it, see pix, etc. etc.!

  5. What a brilliant solution for the PDP Picnic! If the weather is good, the banks of the canal will be a great place to hang out (as this photo shows), and if it starts to rain you can fight for a spot inside the bar. I hope Guille doesn't have to work! Guille you know what my shot of choice is, so have one on the bar for me just in case I show up!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Yay Alexa GF!

So it's D-Day. What a wonderful idea it is, this picnic. I'm sure you'll all have a wonderful time. We need: pics, a good commentary (doesn't have to be running) and, if possible, tweets please! Oh yes, those of us who cannot attend need to feel in the picture!

  7. I CAN'T WAIT!!
Good news, there is an internet access at the pub, you'll follow the "picnic" in live! :)

Katie, I'll have a baby guinness for you, be sure of that. Or maybe two.
Alexa, don't be envious, you're welcome "chez Guille" any time you want. :)

    ReplyDelete
  8. Oooh that's great news Guille. Live huh?

Katie it's you! I KNEW it! I guessed you ages ago... er..then I changed to Parisian Heart ok. Does that count? :)

    ReplyDelete
  9. Alexa, don't be envious, you're welcome "chez Guille" any time you want. :) Awww, that's sweet! And don't think we won't show up!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Katie? No, it can't be Katie. Katie's not a man. Er, are you, Katie? I mean after all, the SF-PDP picnic was a couple of years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Ujima, sorry to hear that!! :( I was looking forward to seeing your face on that picture next to the others. Maybe next year?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Tomate, mais j'espère bien que tu va show up one day!! Ou alors ce sera moi qui te paierai une visite à SF...

It can't be Katie, she was already here last October! And no, she's obviously not a man, but a gorgeous woman. And I've been told that one of my colleagues really liked her. Ooops, sorry, you didn't know? ;)

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  14. Bon, je t'ai envoye un courriel. T'as vu, hein "courriel!" ;)
Don't worry about Eric's blog: Eric's phone vibrates every time someone leaves a comment, soooooo ;)

    ReplyDelete
  15. "restriction budgétaire " t'en fais pas, on connait bien!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Y'avait un forum dans le temps, pour ceux qui veulent discuter, qu'est-ce que c'est devenu ce PDP forum?

    ReplyDelete
  17. By the way, there is an old 2CV on Google Street View . Woot!!!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I love this view - I hope it's another night like that for you all tonight, whether inside or outside Guille's pub ... but without Eric lying on the ground, of course!

Lynn, I hope it's not just our first pick that counts!

Say, didn't the 'man' hint come from Michael, not Phx? As irresistible as Michael is, I shall not allow myself to be led astray ... I will stay with ET Suzy!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Ohhh...Guille is hostessing - cool! I really wish I could have stretched our trip a few more days and been there with all of you. Have a delightful time! xoxo

    ReplyDelete
  20. First of all, this is a great photo...it is now my computer background. I really like it! ;-)

Now..about that picnic..Hope you all have a fantastic time!! Too bad that one cannot really plan with the weather..oh well! Hope that Guille doesn't have to work so that she can join in all of the fun and debauchery!!! LOL!! Now...Behave yourselves!! ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Ujima -- "watch-mom-while-you-travel-network". LOOOOOL. : )

Now - who is the surprise mystery guest???!!! Can't wait for the pictures. I can picture myself there with you all, though. Have the PDP cavewomen arrived?

I hope you have the best time everyone!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Well, if the picnic can't be outdoor than I bet there's no better option than Guille's pub!
But don't go on ordering drinks to her, she's on her time off. Right Guille ;)

  24. I hope you all have a wonderful time. Guille, how wonderful for you to play hostess! Eric, please order a martini for me. Michael will drink it for me. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  25. Sorry I can't be there...maybe next year...perhaps they'll send in the clowns...:-)

    ReplyDelete
  26. This is so exciting reading everyone's comments about the picnic in the bar! Your enthusiasm is contagious. I wish I were there! & I can not wait to hear all the details asap!
    btw, lovely photo Eric!
    Merci.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Have a wonderful time, everyone! And we'll be watching for photos...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Maybe next year?

I'll keep trying, Tomate!I missed the meeting in NYC because of a Phillies game and now I'm missing the picnic. But I WILL be in Paris again and will met the Great Mr. T and others.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yeah, we would like to be there! Would somebody perhaps take a picture of a tomato to that "picnic" and sit it in front of a tall drink, maybe?! ;) OK, maybe this would be a little creepy. Never mind! Tweeter it is, then.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Well I'm bummed. Eric, You'll just have to put on a happy face and party a few weeks from now! Hope you all have fun.
    V

    ReplyDelete
  31. The problem with showing up late to these comments is that it's impossible to say something to everyone!

Yes a martini Mme Benaut (but we'll have to ask Guille if they know how to make a REAL martini first!)

Too bad Ujima. I was looking forward to finally meeting you.

Note to self: buy a tomato to photograph on the bar!

    Shell Sherree - you're wrong!

Note to self: ask Guille if they know how to make caipirinha "the national cocktail of Brazil"

Tonton_flaneur - "debauchery" is my middle name! ;-)

And, oh yeah, great photo Eric!

    ReplyDelete
  32. USelaine "Whee-hee!!! Tweet! Tweet! Tweet! (not going for GF)."

    LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!

Internet in the café?! It looks like I'll be the only one drinking!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Have never been on Tweeter but will try it out today (malgré the mountain of work—screw them, I say) and will try to be there, however virtually!
Guille—say it's your journée libre, s'il te plait, ma reine—but hope you have a fabulous time either way. (et si tu passes par NYC en juillet, il faut absolument qu'on se rencontre—ca va sans dire!
    Mme Benaut -- Michael will have enough to drink! Couldn't I have that martini please? ;~}
Ujima (et Tomate) -- next year? I'll be there if you will!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Guille I'm so impressed you remembered my drink! Granted, I did have quite a few of those in October. Be sure to say hi to J for me!

Lynn sorry to get your hopes up that you were right. Tant pis!

Tomate you're correct that I haven't changed gender since the SF PDP gathering a few years ago. But hey, in SF you never know! I guess I missed hearing that the mystery American blogger guest was a man.

Michael don't let Eric spend the whole picnic tweeting!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Michael - nice try!

    ET Suzy!
    ET Suzy!
    ET Suzy!

    ReplyDelete
  36. And here I was hoping I would be missed or at the very least my caipirinhas!
Marie give Corinne and Arnauld a kiss from me... :( and if Anissa turns up tell her I said hello...

    ReplyDelete
  37. Shell, I feel honored. Mostly because you don't think I'm a man! HA!

This soiree keeps on getting better! And now it's "live?" Color me impressed. Anyone have a webcam they can set up?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Tomate, you've let the cat out of the bag. Now each time I post a comment, I'll imagine Eric's phone is in his front trouser pocket... "Hi", "Just saying a friendly hello", "Me again", "Tweet, tweet, tweet" etc. ...

    ReplyDelete
  39. Eric I'm sorry I won't be joining you tonight but I'll be thinking of you and do hope to be able to attend one day. Better planning next year?
    Enjoy! (and love to Guille)

    ReplyDelete
  40. BTW, thanks for (belatedly) posting your photos of the Sydney gathering. That looked like fun. You had a very feminine company by the looks of it. No male bloggers in Sydney? LOL

    ReplyDelete
  41. Michael, you're right, "The problem with showing up late to these comments is that it's impossible to say something to everyone!"

Never mind, we'll say more tonight ;-)
And don't worry, you won't be the only one drinking. I'll be with you...

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hahahaha!!!

Yeah, Elaine, you never know. Technology can bring small pleasures as well ;)

Michael: just print one out and stick it in your pocket until D-day!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Me at the picnic ------>

    (hello everybody)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Err - shouldn't you be on your plane by now, ET Suzy?????

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oooh. This is one of my favorite PDP photos.

Man, I wish I were on my way to that party ...

    ReplyDelete
  46. {"... maybe ET Suzy is already there?" she ponders to herself hopefully.}

    ReplyDelete
  47. Be careful tonight if you want to use the metro: don't use line 3 as it's on works and doesn't stop at "Republique". The other lines (5, 8, 9 and 11) are OK !

    ReplyDelete
  48. Ha! These lovely ladies should not worry, it's not because I thought they were men; I think the 'man' thing is a red herring!

I am still going with Katie (I thought you WERE coming to Paris again this year?) and Parisian Heart. I can have two can't I? Good.

I did wonder about Suzy but I think she wouldn't be able to contain her excitement if it was her. She'd give herself away with everything in thrice with lots of exclamation marks ;)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Love the power of this shot and all that goes with. Had to say it.
Belated : Sure!! You cannot even imagine when they happen to have met their double (well, let's say double_3rd power)...

  50. I am sending this from a French laptop, the keyboard takes a little getting use to but it is fun. I went to a medieval village yesterday. The church was built around year 1000. The village is in Provins, France. During the time of Joan of Arc, she rescued and brought the King of France there and they had Mass together before going to another location. I made a digital film while I was there.

This is a party photo as was the one of yesterday. Really puts everyone in the mood. Merci for the update Guille. Tonight we are going to the PDP picnic that Eric is throwing in person OR virtually. Katie, remember our virtual SF PDP picnic of last year?

Note to self (as Michael would say), Eeeek, I almost forgot to BRING FOOD! Mouffetard is a few blocks from me, so I will be heading over there later on this afternoon. Does anyone have any special requests?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yes Lois. Pls tell us who the mystery guest is. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'm not working tonight, of course not! But I'll be glad to go behind the bar to serve my friends and make them nice cocktails... :)

Thib is right, don't take line 3!

So, a baby Guinness for Katie, a martini for Alexa and Mme Benaut, a pint of Guinness for Coltrane, a Caipi for Rose and Monica... What else? Last order!

    See you tonight!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Lois: make sure you guys takes lots of pictures to show us later.

Michael: see, if Rose or I were at the picnic/pub we could provide the caipirinhas!!!! Hope Guille knows how to do it by now, after all, I think she's a speciallist in drinking it!

    ;)

    ReplyDelete
  54. Guille, what else?

    Have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Ok here's my virtual order, Guille. Someone can please drink for me a wonderful fruit cocktail! No alcohol please, or very little ;)

    ReplyDelete
  56. C pas drôle de couper les têtes comme ça... :(

    ReplyDelete
  57. Monica, Note to self, bring camera, merci!

    ReplyDelete
  58. I am about to leave for the party and I see that the guessing is still alive.
I will have to give the hysterical last hint(developed by mystery guest) after you have found out as \i want it shared with you all.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Already leaving PHX?
    Soooooo....this hint?!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Dear Picnic-In-The-Pub People,
Have a great time, try not to fall into the canal!

BTW Guille, now I know why you spend so much time in the pub!

    ReplyDelete
  61. The rain is really coming down, thunder even, wow!

    ReplyDelete
  62. OK. I'm leaving the office.
Should be there in an hour.

Unfortunately, I'll have to use the metro! It's much too rainy for a Velib' ;-((

    ReplyDelete
  63. Too bad about the rain, but I know you guys will have fun anyway.

So who are we following on Twitter? Or will there be live comments posted on PDP?

    ReplyDelete
  64. That's the Great Flood in Paris.
Stormy weather, it seems to me!
Have a great time, you all and let us be informed, please. Don't be that cruel...

    ReplyDelete
  65. Sorry to say that I'm sitting at my desk at work, jealous as all get-out that I'm not in Paris for the picnic. Even Paris in the rain is better than being at work! So I've put on my CD of French songs, and will do my best to forget about not being there.

    Je ne veux pas travailler
    Je ne veux pas déjeuner
    Je veux seulement oublier
    Et puis je fume

Ok, so I'm not really smoking, just steamed that I'm not in Paris. And yes Lois, I'll expect a big slide show of photos when you get back to SF. Maybe we can have a Post-PDP-Picnic Party.

Here's to a fabulous PDP Picnic!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Pink Martini.
Isn't one of the song on the album, or the album even, called "hang on little tomato" ?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Heads-up! Twitter is scheduled to shut down for maintenance at noon Pacific time/ 9 pm Paris time! Hope it doesn't last too long! Remember to start Tweeting early!

    ReplyDelete
  68. For those who are not in France, I just came back from Paris and no rain above the City yet but sun and huge black clouds at the same time.
For the ones attending the picnic, have lots of fun, spend a great evening, you certainly are a wonderful group of persons, who seem to get along so well together.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Oh yes USelaine! I forgot that. The nerve! Doesn't Twitter KNOW it's the PDP picnic-in-the-pub (like that, Drummond)?

Come on Phx, the last clue's no good once we all know - it wouldn't be a clue then, it'll just be information! Give us one more.

    Thib what's a velib?

I can exclusively reveal to non-Twitters that...Eric is now... AT HOME GETTING READY!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Have reminded him to take camera, to take his mobile phone, goodness if I could reach from the UK I'm sure I'd be straightening his tie.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Lynn
I will call you later tonight for us to cry together..lol!

    ReplyDelete
  72. LOL what a great idea Rose. I do love a girly cry he he... I might not stop though :(

You and I must try to go there at some other point. Really.

I have no further Tweet exclusives. We have to imagine instead. Um let's see..Eric has mwah'd about 15 times so far...and he's said "Enchante.." or "So pleased you could come.." and Guille is handing out drinks like there's no tomorrow....... :D

    ReplyDelete
  73. Have fun! Sadly, stuck here in Canada, although we were in this very spot 2 weeks ago. Sigh...

    ReplyDelete
  74. Soooo, what´s the news from the picnic/pub?

Guille did say there´s internet access there..... so give us a sign of smoke!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Monica: LOL! They have forgotten about us!

    ReplyDelete
  76. I was just thinking the same thing, Monica. Smoke: maybe the cavewomen are roasting a leg of mastodon and no one can see their own keyboard through the haze from the campfire.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Tall Gary, I thought you were the mystery guest?!!

    ReplyDelete
  78. At least the roaring one on the left was hot enough to start fires. As hot as primeval lava.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I'm so late. TG, I was sure you were the surprise guest because you're late too.

A wonderful picture, Eric! Now that I know your phone buzzes every time a comment comes in, I'll be sure to comment more often.

Have a wonderful time everyone. I'll be waiting for updates.

And Guille, I'll just have what everyone else is having.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Fabulous !!!!! TG!!!!!!!!
I wish I could be with you all !!!!!!!!! Petrea same for me!!

How nice that PDP stuff and who is the king of all of that? Who tell me ? Who? ;)

Hip hip hip for PDP ???? Houuuurrrraaaaa!

    ReplyDelete
  81. If it isn't TG, or Coltrane, then I give up.

    ReplyDelete
  82. How do we know TG isn't commenting from there????
Okay, Fifi! Enough already: reveal the mystery guest!!!! Pretty please with sugar on top?

    ReplyDelete
  83. Alas, it is not I Tomate, but I'll have a few of those "mini Guinni's" that are likely flowing at the Irish pub. Okay, for now I'll wish you PDPers a superb eve and drown my sorrows in my Heiniken...and bask in the sunshine that we do have (finally) here in the Midwest. Sante! Look forward to hearing and seeing all the action. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  84. Yep we are all forgotten so far :( Those in charge have gone out on the town, left us kiddies behind to misbehave - and they've forgotten to check on us!!!! So - what shall we get up to? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  85. Oooh that's a point. Any one of us could be posting from there! Ha. This is the point of paranoia. We are now looking around the room at each other with a very cautious eye... dun dun dur.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Keep commenting - maybe the vibrating will be too much and Eric or someone will respond. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  87. Guys
I am so disgusted... Michael is not answering his phone...
    Can you believe it?
    Michael answer the bloody phone!
I want to join in!!!! lol

    ReplyDelete
  88. I was just gonna say .. .would someone please post the Tweet feed up here, so the rest of us can follow? :) Pretty puleeeeeez? Besides, we haven't broken the 100 comments in a while on this blog ! :D

    ReplyDelete
  89. Nope nothing so far huh Elaine but I just tweeted Eric to say : So we've heard nothing so far & we're all getting twitchy, wondering who's posting comments but is actually THERE with you! Salut!

    ReplyDelete
  90. Tomate. Is it really you? That pic of you at the picnic is very convincing, I have to say.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I have an idea. Since we're all there "in spirit" we should all grab a drink right now. On the count of 3, everybody ...

I'll go first. I believe I'll have ... diet Lipton tea in a can! Oh my!! They really ought to fill the vending machine with better stuff (rolling eyes).

    ReplyDelete
  92. Tomate Farcie doing De NiroMay 13, 2009 at 10:24:00 PM GMT+2

There is a picture of ME?!!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Rose. Maybe they're not answering the phone because any minute now...your doorbell or mine will RING! Hahaha imagine that. Yeah but really, where are they? :( I'm going to start rearranging Eric's furniture if they don't say something soon.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Eric: your fans are awaiting you!

    ReplyDelete
  95. It looks like a cool laidback establishment from the Google Map. Lot of shops around it (JT Exports, Optical...) with a cool view across the quai. Big Guinness sign by entryway, large window with "The Cork And Cavan" in Old English Script, some tables and chairs out front on the sidewalk.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Well, I'll check in later...I've some planting to do this afternoon.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Tomate...I'm drinking with you...LOL...egads!!! not tea. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  98. The C&C is not very big, and my guess is that the place is jammed beyond capacity, no one can hear their phone ring, and everyone is probably so buzzed that even a phone set on "stun gun" wouldn't register! I fear we won't be hearing from anyone for a while.

Should we take bets on who the first person who was at the party to check in here? I'll guess Thib, who has a Blackberry.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Coltrane, did you spot the old 2CV (quintessential French car) on the Google Street View pic?

    ReplyDelete
  100. Boycott! When they do check in we will just pretend not to notice. How dare they leave us on pins and needles!!! ;)
I think Thib will comment first also.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Let the bets commence...
I'm thinking Guille would be first.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Tomate...oui, now that you mention it. I also saw a young lady pedaling her bicycle that looked like it could have been Guille (to the west of the estab.) Cheers!

    ReplyDelete
  103. Oh, I misunderstood, I thought you meant first to arrive at the party!

    Where are all the Tweeters?

    ReplyDelete
  104. My money is on Thib! He's been the first on other occasions...he also may be the designated driver. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  105. I hope nobody drove there. Driving in Paris s-cks and parking is unheard of (well, unless you have a velib or a scooter or something ;)

    ReplyDelete
  106. Good idea Cali
Let's boycott Eric, his blog, Twitter... every one at the picnic! lol

    ReplyDelete
  107. Ahem. I have an EXCLUSIVE ! he he.... I just had a call from Michael et Guille. You were right, it was very noisy there! That's why I think they didn't answer. They are all having a GREAT time! I have two marvellous pieces of news for you.

    1. Bettina is fine! She is there! I don't know any details but she is there.

    2. I KNOW who the mystery guest is!! LOL. Shall I tell you? I have permission to reveal....:)

    ReplyDelete
  108. THEY HAVE JUST CALLED ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  109. Lynn
Please don't you start teasing too!!!

    ReplyDelete
  110. It sounds like they are having the time of their lives and can’t tear themselves away for even a second. I mean, they have been there for 4 hours now.

It’s just a guess, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the May 14 PDP is posted around 6:00 P.M. Paris time.

    ReplyDelete
  111. I just spoke to Michael and Guille and Eric and Jeff!!!!!

    I´m thrilled!

Lynn is right, there was a lot of noise we can see they´re having a great time. The weather ´s bad, but the caipirinhas.... well they stoped counting how many they´ve had after the 10th glass

    ReplyDelete
  112. It’s just a guess, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the May 14 PDP is posted around 6:00 P.M. Paris time.Hahahaha!!

    ReplyDelete
  113. Merci Monica for the update. Sounds like nobody should be driving ... or pedaling the Velibs. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  114. It is so wonderful that she made it... how perfect!

    ReplyDelete
  115. Shell Sheree, you did it! ET Suzy!

    EIFFEL TOWER!
    EIFFEL TOWER!
    EIFFEL TOWER!

    ReplyDelete
  116. Yay! Rose wasn't it exciting? Monica too? I loved it. Suzy has made a flying visit, just a couple of days, especially for the picnic! Fantastic huh? I heard her lovely voice but we both giggled so much and squealed, we didn't say very much LOL....

    ReplyDelete
  117. The honor couldn't go to a better man.

    She's a better man than I am.

May the best man--oh, never mind. I'm so happy for her I could just...cry in my near beer.

    ReplyDelete
  118. ET

Phx fooled us saying it was a man....!

    ReplyDelete
  119. We must all go next year, okay? Suzy too. Let's start saving our pennies right now!

Three years ago to the day I was in Paris. AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  120. Very exciting to hear from them. Although they were all talking at the same time and screaming and laughing!!!!!

    Very funny!

You guys I loved to talk briefly with you all! Thanks!!! Wish I was there (
Jeff next time I´m sure our schedule will be in sync´; Guille and Eric and Mike and Phx I will see you in 3 weeks!!!)

    ReplyDelete
  121. And Rose and From Cali too, I will see you SOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
