Visit the Champs Elysées right now!

Last evening I went to the Champs Elysées especially for you to take this street plate. The reason why is that yesterday (Monday) I received a press release announcing the opening of a new 360° photo site that allows you to visit the most famous street of Paris "without having the burden" of taking the plane to come here! Click here and try it. It's fun.

  1. That was great! I will be back playing with it off and on all evening. I figure that is as close to Paris as I will ever get. Thanks for sharing the fun, Eric.

  3. Fantastic!

I've been doing the same thing with much of Paris using Google Earth. I love those walking-down-the-street views. It really helped me plan my short stay in May.

  5. The burden?!?!? Ah, yer breakin' my heart!

Well, thanks for these fun treks, down the Champs, Eric. But I'd rather have the burden!

Suzy, I practically learned my way around Paris with Google Earth and loved it. It was really helpful.

  6. Wonderful. I hope this isn't as close as I get to Paris in my lifetime. I'll think positively that this is a trial run.

  7. The 'burden' is NOT being in Paris! lol Great idea for a fun street.

  8. What fun! Thank you for posting the link! Makes my daydreams of Paris even better :-)

  9. That was fun, but where are all the people? Every time I have strolled the Champs, the sidewalks have been packed.

  10. During another boring day on the job this is a welcome distraction. Love taking a virtual walk down one of the best avenues in the world. Thanks, Eric.

  11. Oops I forgot my virtual name on the last post. C'est moi.

  12. I agree with Wren! And Gramma Ann, GF, your statement—"I figure that is as close to Paris as I will ever get"—makes me very sad! Wouldn't it be cool to watch this and see yourself in it? Thanks for sharing, Eric!

  13. Cool site. Thanks for going out of your way for us -- again, Eric! : )

Maria - Unless I missed something on the site, I wouldn't look for the Tour de France here - these shots have already been filmed - you can see if you go back and forth that the people don't move.

I'd like to see some of the Tour myself but I'm not sure what the best sites are to catch it. Anyone watching it?

  14. Gramma Ann - Alexa's right - keep the door open and you never know what unimagined oppoprtunity may walk through it! (It's worked for me all my life!) So, repeat after me: I can hardly wait for the day I get to tell Alexa that I'll be meeting Eric below the Arc de Triomphe on the Champs Elysees!! : ) (X -- that's my fingers crossed in virtual space for you). : )

  15. I'm more of an arm chair traveler. That's why I travel to Paris each day on PDP.

  17. Cool site Eric. However, I must say I couldn't seem to shake the bloke wearing the baseball cap, vest, and bag. Illusionist or unibomber or okay...US tourist?
;-) He certainly appears and reappears and disappears. Anyway, a morning stroll down the Champs is always welcome.

Carrie...definitely will follow the Tour again this year. Afterall, it is zzzz best, non?

Gramma Ann...one day you'll be walking on the Champs. You must make it one of those things you just have to do in life.

  19. Such a pristine sign and a neat link - merci beaucoup, Eric, though like most, I'll be happy to endure the numb bum someday to get there.

Caro, hubby's watching the highlights coverage they show here on TV in Australia from late evening to wee hours of the morning. I just catch a bit of sightseeing before I go to bed! But online, you could try this site during French daylight hours.

  21. I love the Parisien street plates, they're so beautiful.

Virtual walks in Paris are great in between trips, but I prefer to walk the streets myself.
Try "Les photos de villes" too, I often "walk" there ;-)

  24. Eric! Thank You for the glorious link. With the photo site I can sit in the middle of the US and pretend I'm on the Champs Elysees...giggles. Hey a girl has to do what a girl has to do, non? ;)

  26. A thousand merci's, Eric. Makes we want to sing the "Oh, Champs Elysees ..." song!

  27. This site is fun. I don't know if it's better than Google Maps, I'll do some experimenting over time.

I wonder if there are any of the old street name plates remaining on the Champs. I love that Paris uses the newer printed plates have the same appearance as the old ones. It' really fun to see the older ones.

I was talking with my mother as we sat next to the Mississippi River on Sunday. I remembered the epiphany that the sky and the light in Paris must have been a major reason for so many painters to locate there, in addition to the customer base of course.

  28. Merci!! Wonderful! We stayed at the Hotel California on the Rue de Berri just off Champs-Elysees in 2005 and took this walk many times - it brought back a lot of happy memories of my first trip to Paris. I hope to return soon!

  30. LOL! Ok Gramma I'll believe you, thousands wouldn't... ;)

  31. Eric this is a good idea but nothing compares to the feeling (and view) you get when you actually climb to the top of the Arch.

The only thing I would NOT miss is all that stairs inside it....!

  34. Shell - thanks for the link! I've never watched it before this year, but I've been reading more about it and I'm understanding more about how it works and where the stages are and who the great riders have been, etc. Fun!!
