No, I have nothing in particular to celebrate, but some people must have... I found this bottle in front of La Gare d'Austerlitz (one of the 6 main train stations in Paris) and I couldn't help but taking a photo ;-) I also noticed the nice lighting that they put on the facade of the building which, I think is new. This station is mostly used to take people to Bordeaux and Toulouse, two large cities located in the South West of France. It was built between 1862 and 1867 and is going to be totally renewed in 2011. Have a good week everyone.

i like the way that the orange-red color reflects off the bottle.....and a similar shape of the bottle is found in the light pattern behind.....you don't "take" pictures...you compose them......

I've been to Bordeaux, and I think it would be very appropriate to toast a departure to that beautiful city with a bit of bubbly! Especially if you were going there for the Fete le Vin, as I did. Mon Dieux, I love press trips! I can think of all sorts of scenarios to go with this photo, Eric, and the light here is wonderful.

Yes, we are celebrating tonight...our beloved football team, the New Orleans Saints, just won the game against the Carolina Panthers. Our team is now 8-0!!! This has never happened for this team before. Your Sunday photo is appropriate for us. Many thanks for such a beautiful photo! You have captured the golden glow of the Paris that I love so dearly.

I love your photo - this light is such a delight. Eric, if I did not know how hard you work and how much you do it, I'd think you wandered in Paris all day long and even at night in order to provide Pdp with this kind of picture.
But I know it is not what your agenda allows you to do, so I always smile at your quickest-in-Paris-eye-catching :)

After Big Macs, haute couture and Apple stuff, now you're talking my language.
Never get on the Eurostar to Paris without a bottle of Champagne and smoked salmon sandwiches. It's the only way to travel.
I don't think this is 'Champagne' but 'vin mousseux' or 'sparkling wine' - although when you think about it, Champagne IS sparkling wine.
Oh whatever, I'd drink it!

Yes, I remember, Berlin.
20 years ago.
I was still student, third year at the Uni.
As one of my uncle worked in Berlin, in the international area, I went a couple of times in Berlin when I was a child and saw the Wall. Of course, very impressive. But it would have been more impressive if I could have a chance to see it myself on this D-day, 9 Nov. 1989, as you told us here, once, that you did, Eric.

Dumont/Drummond : that's not so far, isn't it?. But the difference is surely as subtile as the difference between a Mousseux and a Champagne ;)

I love the photo, too! There are lots of green hues in the concrete and walls of the station, echoing the bottle glass, as well as golds echoing the foil.
To me, besides the fall feel, there's a sadness about this photo and it recalls what I felt in looking at the black and white of the homeless man peering out mournfully at his bottle and glass of champagne. It seems that in France there's such a surplus of champagne that it just gets left around randomly!!

We just got back from Paris on Saturday nite, and I have to say when we went to the local wine store to buy some champagne I was shocked how expensive it was. Most of the red wines I bought were way cheaper then the same thing in NY, but the same champagne we always buy was a lot more. We drank it during the sunset on the Ponts des Arts bridge and was shocked none of the police at the end said anything after we all talked a few months ago on here about them cracking down....
Needless to say, it was a great week, in a great rental flat in the 6th and we are now suffering Paris Withdrawal. Wonder if the doctor will write us an RX to go back? Haha....

As to the new lighting on Gare d'Austerlitz, maybe it's part of the upgrade of the area, which included the building you cited on 7 November.
Going to Nassau later this week. I hope I avoid bad weather from the hurricane in the Caribbean.

very occasionally, I have been sternly correctd on the plane by a French person, pointing out that the pre departure champagne I was serving was NOT Champagne, but sparkling wine! Only sparkling wine from Champagne can be called Champagne. OK OK I'll stop (sort of).
I have also noticed, that where you come from(and what you do for a living) determines the type of vacation you choose. Poor Jeff has probably been freezing for a while!!!!
