Yellow Umbrellas

Sunday, November 29, 2009 Posted by Eric Tenin

It was raining today. Not so unusual for the end of November in Paris, but what is more surprising is to come across a bunch of people holding an umbrella the same color! I quickly found out they were all taking part in a Viva Ashraf demonstration (see more here) to protest the lack of democracy in Iran. This protest has apparently been going on for quite a while now, throughout the world. In Paris they gather every weekend at Place du Chatelet.

That's it—I'm going to get a yellow umbrella! I don't know whether this is going on in NY, but I'll have to find out. Thanks for showing this, Eric.

Its an interesting way to show solidarity. And, another interesting glimpse at one of the many faces of Paris.

I'm impressed that these protesters continue to gather. It's not easy to maintain momentum and this is so important.

I'm surprised the umbrellas aren't green! I remember that being the color the protesters used in Tehran. I don't often have need of an umbrella, but I could use a yellow parasol.

What a meaningful background story to a great shot. Looks like a bunch of solidarity sunflowers!

Beautiful shot; love the dark branches above contrasting with the yellow.

This is not Iranian's green movement(like the one on 25july 2009), the green movement is supported by all Iranians, but this demonstrations belong to Maryam Rajabi...they are an opposition which most of Iranians dont support...because of their Ideology and their big mistakes in the past...anyway...this is the reason of yellow color..they are minority..

Thanks baharv, that clears it up for me. I'll make my parasol green then.

As that you are into photography, I thought that you may be interested in a monthly blog posting called “5 on the fifth” where You can either take 5 random pictures of anything that happens to you on the 5th of December (or the days leading up to it) or perhaps go for my suggested theme.

Just post your pictures on your own blog and then post a comment on MY blog with your name, location and link to your site – I then update the entry so the world has your link. Remember to mention my blog on your own blog so that your visitors get to see the other contributions.

    Interesting, Bahrav.
This reminds me of Christo's artwork of the Umberellas. His wife, Jeanne Claude died recently.
How long is the rain supposed to hold up?
